Prostitution: Decriminalize, Legalize, or leave it as is?

I am a strong proponent of decriminalizing it. From what I have seen and heard legalization simply introduces a layer of useless middlemen and pointless government bureaucracy.

I think it is evident that criminalizing prostitution is pointless.

In any case, what makes trading sex for security or goods okay in one case but a chargeable offense in another?

(In fair disclosure I know call girls, street walkers, adult film performers, dominatrixes, and sugar babies.)

Decriminalized would be better than legalized.
In my humble opinion.

The gray area that would be difficult for me is the decriminalization of pimping or some sort of broker dealer position. Potential for abuse there is high I would think

very much so!

I think the legislative requirements should be around age, sanitation, and safety. Maybe create registration requirements or agency requirements :dunno

I just see significant risk to a young adult of being abused by either the buyer or an agent. Freelancing hopefully would be resolved by free market dynamics ie gig economy a la uber (but we can already see the risks based on past history)

I disagree, I think there should be legislation surrounding it. Too easy to get abused in this line of work. Protections should be provided.
Protections such as what?

I know strippers from various states and brothel workers in Nevada. They are not protected.

I've added some more information in my recent post.

and can add more if necessary - obviously I do not know what protections should be created.

My concerns would be on "vendor" safety, underage (on both sides), "vendor" health.

I guess the short is, businesses always look to cut corners to increase profits, it should not be at the expense of the "pro"

Legalize and regulate.

There will still be a black market, of course. But making the bulk of the industry subject to regulation will increase safety and public health. That should also free up law enforcement and justice resources so they may be better utilized.

I have no interest in smoking weed myself but I find it bizarre that a plant growing out of the ground can be made illegal to own to smoke to grow.
Same with getting laid. If you want to pay for it and someone is offering for an agreed price wft is the law getting involved for.

I think we should move in that general direction, but start small and learn what does/doesn't work as we go. Seems like the obvious starting point would be handjobs and bean rubbing at massage parlors. Though I think it should be legalized and regulated over just being decriminalized. Make 'em wear gloves and dispose of body fluids the same as a hospital would.

If you can sell your own body's labor potential getting fucked up in a coal mine for capital, you should be able to do it with your butthole (or any hole for that matter) too.

Legalize, regulate, tax, etc. Provide safety and health resources for those who want to participate, allow tax write-offs for gym membership and whatnot, all that stuff.

Someone got hard data / studies on any positive / negative effects of Nevada?

Many countries have figured out that legalization and regulation keeps everyone safer. I don't think we need a "step", we just need to legalize yesterday.

The problem is that America is uptight when it comes to sex. I blame the pilgrims.

Legalize, regulate, and tax. It works in Vegas, it will work nationally. A lot of the icky, nasty parts of prostitution go away with legalization and good regulation. The Brothels in Vegas don't have issues with women being trapped into the situation, strung out on drugs, or anything like that, there is security in place, prices are agreed upon beforehand, and medical checks are part of the process to make sure customers and prostitutes are both clean.

I'm not sure where I stand with this. Before I went to Amsterdam I thought it would be a good idea to legalize it. After taking the red light district I was totally about legalization because of the way the government treated it.

After reading up and talking to locals it appears that legalization just lead to more sex slaves. Not sure how I feel about the whole thing now.
