Private property towing

It's scary we live in a country where violence is an expected response to people defending their property against assholes.

I don't consider a parking violation to require "defending your property". Especially a corporate parking lot.

But yeah, it is a very violent society, and it's getting worse. Do you know how many people are carrying guns now? Illegally? A whole lot more than I thought. At least among people I know.

This whole country is a death trap compared to Canada.

Plus, we have to keep Anthem Blue Cross in business through extremely high insurance premiums. How else could the executives' kids, go to Stanford or Harvard?

So, my company is in the middle of the City of Santa Clara where there seems to be non-stop commercial construction. We own our building and our parking lot. We have been having issues with the construction guys parking in our lot and filling it up. We have tried to be nice. We have asked the guys not to park in our lot, and we have even multiple times gone over to the construction site and asked the foreman to tell his guys not to part in our lot. But, they continue to do so. It is getting out of hand.

Does anyone here know what the rules are related to setting up a private property towing agreement with a local towing company? Is it just a matter of signing an agreement and putting up towing signs? That's what all the towing companies tell us. I just wanted to confirm that it really is that easy.

I feel like a dick for wanting to do it, but we are kinda stuck.

PARKING IS WAR!

Destroy these interlopers with righteous fury for invading your sovereign territory!

Sorry, I didn't mean to get all San Francisco up in here, but I would lose my shit over this behavior.

"Parking illegally", does not give someone the right, to damage someone's car. So, someone decides to slash the tires. The tires on my Suv were $270 ea. Do you know what I would do to someone that slashed my tires if I caught them? Same with repairing a paint job. Is it worth getting truly fucked up, or possibly killed, over a parking space? Not to me it isn't. And you know how many people have those little lipstick camera's now, right?

Besides the chickenshit coward angle.

How many times would the property owner have to ask/tell you not to park there before you complied?
Something tells me you'd stop parking there after the first time, no?

What would you do if this were happening at your work, and they asked you to fix it?

I ride my motorcycle to work. Can't do wheelies after work in the Escalade.

Besides, you're right. After 1 or two times, I'd park somewhere else. But no matter what I, don't mess with people's shit. I'm pretty sure you are the same way.

Lots of angst here about parking. We have parking issues where I work (270 employees), but if I have to park down the street (the once or twice a year I do if it is raining), I still don't trip. And we have motorcycle specific parking, 6 large spots, maybe 2 or 3 guys ride every day.

Whay would you do if they slashed the tires on your bike, because they didn't like the way you parked, and you caught them? I'd end up going to jail.

It is not getting worse. Homicide rates are the same as 1950.

US society is violent, but it is no more violent than in the past

Well, the point is, is I don't mess with people's stuff. Period. If I have an issue with something, I'll say something. There have been suggestions here to damage people's stuff. Very bad advice. Like I said. It isn't worth getting killed over, and people have been killed for less. Some people take their cars very seriously. As seriously as we take our bikes.

When does self help enter the equation? If these assholes have been told not to park there and continue to do so, what is the solution? Tow, boot or vandalize?

Vandalism is for lowlifes. If you're not will to say something to the driver then go back to your corner and sulk about it.

haha! Pick a day to end the day for everyone early. Shut and lock the gate at 230pm just before construction lets out. That should be fun to watch.

:laughing

Lock a bunch of construction guys' vehicles in a lot and expect the gate/chain/whatever to still be there the next morning!! :rofl

Really? This surprises me. I really would have expected them to have gone up in the past 30 years. (Yeah, I know they could have gone down from '65 to '85 too ...)

To all the people who didn't read, they talked to the drivers and the foreman about not parking there but they have continued to do so anyway.

I would put up the signs and call the tow trucks if they don't keep out of the lot. They had fair warning.

My post was simply in response to the suggestions of vandalism against someone else's property for whatever reason. I wasn't offering any solution to the OP's problem

OP, I managed a worksite for 13 years. Don't bother with municipal towing or municipal towing signs. You just get whomever is on rotation, and if the tow driver deems the vehicle "not worth it" (i.e., looks worthless at auction) they simply don't tow.

If there is a local tow company willing to take an exclusive contract and that is willing to take care of the signage, go for that.

Other than that, you'll just have to suffer.

(Also, and not at the OP, just a general thing: vandalism of illegal parkers' vehicles is too easy to get caught at, and opens the business up to liability; totally not worth the risk.)
