who was that that passed me today on HWY 9 on a big A** BMW GS knee dragging and hauling.... you really need to slow down those corner entry speeds a bit there buddy! Keep it safe out there! I thought you were risking "it" a bit much!

Sbk62? I've ridden with him before up there, GSes should not be able to go that fast...!

"Century Club" guys. 2 -3 of em on GS and one on a Tuono IIRC. Chill dudes and ride like bats out of hell. They are kind of a known entity up there on weekdays.

So, he smoked you and you consider it unsafe?

How about those old guys that used to ride the toaster tank BMW s years ago that went faster than 99% of the other riders up there? I haven't heard anything about them lately though. Maybe old age caught up to them and their bikes.

I have a couple AFM buddies ( one is AMA as well) with GS's.

They used to love going on the Sunday Morning ride in Marin just to pass sportbikers on the latest machinery.

I bet it was them that I ran across years back. Was on Alpine feeling pretty good about myself when I saw a trio way back in my rearview...then on my ass, then waved them by...a couple of turns later they were specs in the distance. Respect. :laughing

Are we having fun yet?
One time last year, shortly after passing 4-corners, down 9 toward Saratoga, an adventure bike (a Stelvio or a GS Adventure?) w/ three big aluminum cases passed me with authority. I tried to follow but couldn’t keep up. From behind, the way those three big aluminum cases flicked from side to side and dove into each corner was dramatic. All I could think was, Jesus, this guy is fully committed into the blind turns. As impressive as the display of skill was, 9 wasn’t a closed course, so I couldn’t help but wonder how he was able to have enough faith that his path would be clear around each blind turn.

Some of these guys think just because they know 9 like the back of their hand that they also know there's no obstacles around a blind turn.

Some ride crossed-up, which I suppose could help them see thru the turn better ....but they'll be dragging hard parts sooner.

...a while back a couple guys on newer RS1100's just flew by me on Mines Road about halfway to the Junction. & I was doing a pretty good clip too back when I still rode the street too fast, & had a couple former retired AFM Champions with me. They bombed past all of us like we were tied to a tree.

We stopped for lunch @ The Junction & were amazed these two were already inside ordering when we arrived. We weren't going that slow. :wow I asked someone if he knew these two & he says yeah, they are former AMA flat-trackers from the early 70's. You don't say...holy shamoly batman...

well :twofinger me...:afm199

It is more about the Indian than the arrow. Knowing the road and the absolute limits of the bike allows you to ride to the limit. I was asked a few times by a rider if I was CHP on the SMR a couple of years ago because my R1150RT was right on the tail of his 1199 Pinigale. In all actuality I was riding it at 90 percent and he was at 40. That 40 just scared the hell out of him and he didn't want to go faster.

Oh, and by the way, I'm no longer fast.
