Wow, someone with sense finally posts in my thread. Took long enough.

It's the cost of running a small business. Like I said, either he can raise prices and give a cash discount, or just refuse cards altogether.

I know a man who owns a gas station/small store....he hates it when people charge a 99cent purchase, but guess what? He has to deal with it, because it is his choice to give his customers the convenience of using plastic.

Just as I thought, you don't know what you are talking about.

Guess what, giving a discount for using cash is also against Visa/MC rules.:rofl

Can I be....frank?
Kalvin shoots, Kalvin scores. :laughing

I bring my own water and trail mix when out on a day ride, so these trailer-park stores with their illegal minimum visa charges can GTFO and be replaced with someone more business savvy. Welcome to capitalism, bitchschool. :applause

That says they charge no transaction fee, nothing about not imposing a $5 minimum though.

You are kidding right?:wtf

Do me a favor......if you are ever in Idaho, don't come in my store. Nobody needs customers like you.

This guy has a store out in the middle of nowhere, and you want to have a fit because he doesn't want to lose money? Do you know how much a retailer needs to make in order to cover credit card fees? Depending on their margin it can be anywhere from $3 to $7. So the guy is trying to make a living and you want to be all pissy because he has established rules for his business that go counter to the CC companies?

I though everyone was against the big corporations and for the little guy? Everyone except you I guess.....:hand

:thumbup

I, also in small business, have a $20.00 min. CC purchase. Anything under that I pay all my profit for you to use the card, might as well not make the transaction. :hand \

If I dont make a dollar on it, why sell it? I understand the "customer/treat them right they come back shit", but they all add up, next thing you know you have a line of guys buying small shit and you just worked an hour, used up a roll of paper (not free) and have not made jack shit.

My business, my rules. Dont like them, go somewhere else.

EDIT: And for the record, EVERYONE should have a 20 dollar bill in their bike under the seat, I have come across gas stations that DO NOT have CCs available, and if you are out of gas at mom and pops store in rural NV, you better have cash.

No minimums is rule #1--just above that which I cropped out.

I really think you are missing the point, for that guy to stay in business out there he is going to have to get a little extra where he can to make up for not owning a store right in the middle of some busy city. He is doing all of us that ride, or travel, into rural areas a favor by running his business there. I think the reason that so many people are peeved with you is that you are missing that point, the point that he is doing all of us a service just by being there.

I dont know how many stores I have seen over the years that have signs like "$2.00 surcharge on CC purchases under 20 dollars" :laughing :laughing :laughing

Even tho its "illegal" by Visas standards, its pretty common.

Buy hey, you go right ahead and call the CC police, we will see if they shut down that illegal shopping operation he has, cause Visa lost a 2 dollar sale.......Im sure visa wants to lose the thousands he probably does each month.

:hand

Take away the right to surcharge and I will raise my prices, is that better? :confused

Sorry, you are wrong.......:hand

Please explain what the difference between calling it a "discount for cash" and a "surcharge for credit".:rolleyes

On second thought, never mind. It's all about you and how you were mistreated, right.

But hey, you go right along acting all indignant that someone has a minimum amount for credit card purchases. With an attitude like that I am sure you will go far in life. Ever thought of becoming a lawyer?

The difference is that a $2 fee and a 30 cent cash discount are NOT THE SAME. What don't you get?

so the chp was cool for letting you off for being a fucktard, but you couldn't find it in your heart to give the small business man a break and just let it go?
