I can never get my bread to rise! My mom says it is because it is too cold in the house but I have tried setting it on the stove with the oven on and it still won't rise! I thought it was the elevation as I did it just fine when I lived in the Valley but you are at a higher elevation than me!

Fleshmans or flieshmans yeast, I can't remember how it is spelled lol What I have always used. It is a yellow packet? What do you use?

My thought is it might be old / dead. I would try a new batch. Is it instant yeast? Do you proof it first?

For my sourdough breads I use a sourdough natural starter that I've had for 13 years. It takes about 4 hours for the bulk rise before I do an overnight cold rise. I use the proofing setting on my oven.

For my non-sourdough breads I use LeSaffre Saf-Instant Yeast Gold

On a different note, I am making my own Kombucha. It is really good, I don't like store-bought and tried a friends homemade and it was really good. She gave me the scoby and I am rocking it :laughing

Post a pic of the yeast after proofing. Do you see it foam up at all? Do you measure the temp of the water before adding yeast? should be around 105-110F i think.

If you are using instant yeast, maybe check the exp date. Could be dead like HH said.

Okay, I will. The last time I tried I did get some foam but the bread didn't rise. Appreciate the help :)

^^There is some truth to this.

Also GD,

If you are saying it's cold in the house, just let your loafs proof twice as long, maybe longer. This is after of course you make sure the yeast is alive/active step.
