I love eating crab, but it's just so much friggin' work. I've never really figured out how to crack it open efficiently. Maybe I just need a longer snout full o teeth. :laughing

I'm totally there. It's like, look man, if you need to put special tools out on the table, just so we can eat this shit...

Dude, you sit there with hammers picks and crackers to crush limbs and eat the flesh of undersea creatures with multiple limbs.

That's fucking metal

Plus they really do taste awesome

The labor to meat ratio is unsatisfying for me. If I am going to dive in and savage some shit, I would rather tackle a whole rack of pork ribs with my hands, you know?

Its just a quirky little thing, but what's annoying about all that trouble, is you always feel like you missed some with crab legs and such. Yer sitting there sucking on some little piece of carapace trying to get your money's worth... Then there's the gooey guts in the middle and all.... it's a dissatisfying experience unless you really love the flavor I guess....

A little trick with lobster to get the meat out of those tiny little legs is the crack them into sections then go over them with a rolling pin.
The meat squirts out like a little lobster noodle

When it comes to food, you are THE man! I've seen your dishes in food pron threads. Looks soooo good. Serious question... are you chef by trade, or just a damned good hobbyist?

Dad was a chef so I've always been in kitchens.
worked in fine dining from age 14 to 23 and probably would have kept it up had I not gotten smooshed

Other shellfish and fish itself are more interesting to eat. Crab feeds usually disappoint me because the crab is cold. I like it warm, which puts me in some kind of minority. Ms. BA makes crab cioppino this time of year, which has other shellfish in it giving the crab a contrast, both in flavor and because you have to stop and get the flesh out of the shell...Kind of a party thing almost in that regard. Of all the seafood, I think I like oysters and scallops the best.

Ditto. Crabs, Lobsters, Crayfish: garbage eaters of the deep.
We have a lot of crayfish up here and while the beer and social aspect are great fun, the end result should be spectacular for all the work. And it just isn't.

Now shellfish (wth why called a fish if you don't have fins?), I agree. BBQ'd Oysters at my dad's place in Coos Bay - the bomb. Scallops, oh yea.
Best I've had was in Valparaiso Chile: mussel the size of your fist. Had to use a knive and fork.

I ribbed you in the Mac n Cheese thread, but truth is... even your Mac n Cheese recipe looked damned good... and ya know how I feel about that. :laughing

Sorry you got smooshed, but it doesn't seem to have held you back. :thumbup

I can eat crab all day and prefer it to lobster. Then again I cook and clean it myself so I can have it warm or cold and it only takes me a few minutes to clean :twofinger

Hope this doesn't last long. There's 2 "Crab feeds" coming up soon :wow

Scallops and Abalone are fantastic when prepared well. Love those sea mollusks.

I too prefer hot steamed in buttery broth dungeness crab over lobster.

Oh and Karbon, lemme guess, you're a steak and potato kind of guy? lol
