good idea agreed, instead of using a EQ pedal or scewing with the guitar knobs in the middle of a set, if you watch enought of the profesionals alot of them continuously mess with there set up in the middle of playing

True. I tried some flat wounds on a guitar once. Weirdest feeling ever...it was like playing on noodles. :p

everyone has to try it HA, i liked them for a month then moved on because of the music i was playing at that time. you have to remember bass guitar, i think the Fat Wounds where wayyyyyy smaller then super slinkys i had before. i was playing the same notes but it sounded way higher on the scale, dident suite my music at all :( ( they where fun to screw around with new sounds) :thumbup

Well since the topic of strings has come up, what are your favorites everyone? For bass, I love GHS Bass Boomers (Medium Light or Medium depending on what music I'm playing), and for guitar, either Ernie Ball super slinky 9's or D'Addario 9's.

On my guitar I use D'addario 9s or ernie ball super slinkies

Any recommendations for acoustic guitar strings? I have an ibanez acoustic electric that is in need of new strings

I've used D'Addarios before on my acoustics...honestly don't remember what I used on my last string changes on mine, but I know D'Addario always makes quality so you can't go wrong...

I recently tried a guitar that was strung with D'Addario .10's. Took a little time to get used to but the tone was noticeably "beefier." I went out the next day and bought a couple sets of the same gauge. You would never imagine that upping the string gauge (and other simple things, such as just fiddling around with the pickup height) would improve your tone so much.

Oh yea, setting the action and pickup height is key to your sound. For my electrics, I try to get my action set as low as physically possible...makes soloing, hammers, etc. much easier.

ive used GHS, Fender's, several Ernie Ball's, Dean Markley's. i settled with the GHS boombers. They been the Favorite for a while now.

Glad to hear that was to your liking. The fact that there's a little more to them seems to make for cleaner picking too.

I'd be up for a jam too, if anyone will have me!

So what are you guys using to record?

I'm thinking of getting an Edirol 9HR. Most because it's portable. And not really so I can listen to me (I'm only a so-so guitar player). The sound quality is supposedly amazing.

Honestly, I tend to just record basic ideas, etc on my laptop with a griffin guitar-computer cable out of whatever instrument i'm recording and into garage band... If I want to record anything with good quality, I have a really good studio in Sunnyvale I love going to because I'm really good friends with the owner and he's given me guitar and bass lessons and he gives me a discount. The Project Studio for anyone who's interested...really good prices for recording in a state of the art studio and he even has full rehearsal rooms for rent with a/c for pretty cheap.
