Why keep posting in the Kitchen Sink? That place is just not searchable.

So the other day I was listening to Johnny Cash croak out "Danny Boy" and the thought struck me, I can do better!

Always loved the melody. But never paid much attention to the lyrics. As I knew the song originally as "Londonderry Air."

But reading and then singing the lyrics to my guitar chords made me realize what a beautiful and sad song it is. And definitely a song sung from the viewpoint of a woman. (Or guy? :laughing)

I like the Pogues' chord progression. And even better that Chordie has a feature where a song in one key can be easily transposed to another by hitting the Go button. No more counting up or down the scale for me!

And here's something ... I'm listening to John McCormack (my favorite Irish tenor) and he's singing "Danny Boy." BUT the title of the song, and this makes sense now, is "O Mary Dear." So it is a guy song but for a woman. And even Wikipedia has an entry for the song.

Are you singing the melody or the harmony?

Distinctive voice on the melody. :thumbup

The "Tupelo County Jail" song needs some cleaning up on the audio. Otherwise it's great. :thumbup Will listen to the others soon (just heard "Annie's Song" -- definitely a different rendition from Denver's. :laughing).

:chuci Even if it's short a fret. :laughing

Here's one I'm rebuilding, but I need an Ibanez RG neck, preferably one with a maple fretboard...

You check Warmoth? great supplier for building.

Also, stewart-macdonald has a ton of stuff.

http://www.warmoth.com/

http://www.stewmac.com

Looked at both of those places. They don't make Ibanez replicas, plus Warmoth stuff can be a bit pricey esp. if you go for fancy woods (ebony fretboards, figured maple bodies, etc.). From time to time I see Ibanez Wizard II necks on Ebay...just need to wait until I find one that fits my needs.

I've gotten several of my tools from Stew-Mac. ;)

I'm listening to Dr. Oliver Sacks on the radio right now (City Arts Lectures via KQED Radio), and he said musicians have larger brains that the average person.

So how big is your brain?!?

:laughing

When you guys tune your string instruments without a tuner, do you find you tune sharp or flat?

I know I tend to tune sharp (and I'm just off by a bit). I wonder if there's a correlation in tuning by ear to something in our brain.

HELP! I have G.A.S. GC has their Labor Day sale going on, and this caught my eye... :chuci It's everywhere on the 'net for $699.

I saw it at a local Guitar Center for under $500. :wow:shocker

I also have a Jackson Dinky, a 80's Peavey Vandenberg (needs some serious fretwork) and a Fender P-Bass. I also have several old bodies and necks from the days I worked at Chandler. ;)
