Moving the SR-71 prototype

Bookmarked. Thanks for posting this. The SR-71 is one of the coolest things to come out of the cold war and US Aeronautics, and I'm proud to say my father was an engineer on the project. I would seriously consider giving up riding for the rest of my life for the chance to fly in one.

Although, I'm also glad that they've been decommissioned and I'll never get the chance to make that choice - just in case its disappointing. ;)

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Awesome find. I wonder who processed those photos? The fact that they were alowed to be taken is pretty astonishing.

Very cool. As a kid I had a Jane's military aircraft ID book. Among one of the dog eared pages was that of the SR71. I think one of the coolest ironies of that plane's development was that they had to establish fake companies to buy Ti from the Russians.

I've always loved that plane. I'd always try to get a glimpse of the one at Castle AFB while driving by on 99 as a kid. I loved war planes, and I caught a bit of guff for my taste in stealth planes from my grandfather, who'd worked for Northrop Grumman after his time in the AF :laughing

They did that anyway.

Ask me about the Maryland Procurement Agency sometime.

Got to see one take off from Beale AFB early in the morning driving to Chico in the early 70's. Damn what a sight.

Thanks for posting this.

My grandpa was Chief at Beale for a couple years, and the SR-71 was his baby. Visiting the base as a kid was among my best memories ever.
