Just finished watching Moto2 and Moto3. Good racing all around. Every time I watch Qatar, I recall MotoLiam's comments about how weird that place was for the crews, being utterly separated from everything, shuttled back and forth between the track and the hotel, no local fans.
I went and looked up some info on that Qatar today and while I always suspected it was just another little oil-rich country in the Gulf, I was a bit taken aback by just how unapologetically backwards this place seems to be. All work is performed by foreigners with 0 workers' rights (in some cases, they actually allow "exacting forced labor"), appalling rates of workplace fatalities, no income tax for the locals, absolute monarchy, economy fueled exclusively by natural resource exports, etc. Racing is racing of course, and I love it, but sometimes looking beyond the TV screen can be good. In this case, it really left a bad taste in my mouth.
On a brighter note, looking forward to the Austin race, where democracy reigns supreme with no human rights abuses of any kind
