M900 clutch issues

If you look at the Video what you will see is the pressure plate and the plates moving like there attached to the pressure plate, the springs DO NOT compress like ALL clutches work!
So some thing is amiss in the assembly is my vote, but I did just look at mine.

Just another old guy.

Plus the bolt heads should not move because they are attached to the basket with the springs holding pressure plate in pressure (pressure plate).
Also the plate ears are moving past the ears on the basket A BIG NO!
Get some kind of manual and read it any thing will do as all bike clutches are mostly the same that way tou can have some kind of understanding how things work.

Still not clear what was wrong with the old setup though.
Glad it is fixed :ride

Apparently nothing was really wrong. I just wasn't putting it together right. Shop didn't charge me much to reassemble so I am not complaining.

BUT now the sprag clutch is out :cry

It has been failing so it wasn't something the shop introduced. Something about decreasing rotational mass might encourage it to fully fail. At least that's what the internet tends to think. :dunno

I just want to friggen ride

From what I understand, the pressure rod must have hydraulic pressure behind it. I think it's a catastrophic failure waiting to happen but it's the only thing that makes sense. I was working on it "dry" (no fluid in the system - empty slave, empty master)

I don't really know. What I do know is for a small fee, the shop fixed it. Now I get to take it apart to replace the sprag.

There is an skf seal that you pull the spring out of to replace in the sprag. PITA to do, but doable. Smooth out the part the sprag grabs on with sandpaper if it has wear marks.
I used to have a couple of extras on hand but they went when I sold ally m900 parts with the last bike.
Also, is you battery strong? Weak batteries allow the sprag to slip.

That's how I knew the sprag was on the way out. It would slip on a weak battery. I'm on a lithium battery that lives on a tender. Pretty sure it's ok

Supposedly they updated it, new part is only $90. Not sweating a repair. If I'm going to open, might as well replace.

New sprag installed. Relatively easy job

Had to use a 300# impact to get the jam nuts off. That was fun

It spins up easy now on thumb

Will reassemble tomorrow.

Hope to ride this week
