M900 clutch issues

So then my thought is maybe there was an extension pin for the pushrod but that seems like a very jerry rigged setup (Ducati sells 2 rod lengths)

Can't imagine the weight of the pressure plate/springs resting on a pushrod/slave cylinder. That's a pretty bad failure waiting to happen

And if that was the case it would be on the pressure plate side and that makes even less sense

After looking at so many things

I think I lost the stupid shim that sits in the aftermarket slave :mad

What a shite design

Before I open this thing up... is the passage that contains the pushrod sealed or could I have pulled the shim into the case?

Seems like most people just toss a ball bearing into the slave.

Could be why I lost it... dropped and rolled away or it's not a sealed passage and it's in the case...

Sealed passage so... not sure where it went

Everything I'm seeing is suggesting that there is a 10mm spacer I've lost or a previous owner lost and replaced with something I've misplaced

Fuck

The hub should not move at all. The only thing that moves in and out is the pressure plate.

You are gonna have to take the hub off.

I went with the easy fix first. But if the nut is tight, you really have a problem and removing the clutch hub is needed.

Until you do, you are wasting time.

I had 95 two 900 ss........

Thanks. Pulling tonight

What manual do you have? How does your clutch compare to this diagram:

that's it. Although the clutch pack is different (Barnett) and it doesn't have that pin (#34)

I will say, I do not see a washer (#5) behind the nut but it may be recessed in the hub.

I was told the rubber pushings (#6) go bad and need to be replaced, so that could be it.

I do not get any vertical play in the hub at this time, which is good... it leads me to believe it's not any of the items behind 17 because from what I understand that involves splitting the cases.

not for nothing but when desmoto replaced my clutch on my a/c hyper they urged to buy oem($300+) vs barnett($100+)
said barnetts were sometimes thin and didn't last/ caused some problems

I had to replace the sprag clutch on one of my 900's once.

The owner before me had been in there doing some work. That nut also has a ungodly amount of torque plus, for good measure, he used red locitite.

I ended up buying a 3/4 inch Ingersal Rand impact gun. I don't think there is a 1/2 inch impact gun rated high enough.

Meaning here is what a shop is gonna do.......try 1/2 ......ain't gonna budge, try heat and 1/2 again.......ain't gonna budge. ......try more heat......long breaker bar with a pipe extension.......ain't gonna budge.....

There is nothing I can't take apart now. It has been worth the cost.

The thing about Barrett plates are that the are aluminum and the tang get beat to shit from hittin against the clutch basket.

Yeah, I've heard this but stack height is right and it's a wear item. If it wears a little faster, I'm not complaining. I don't ride a whole lot anymore. 100 miles a week. If it failed at 10,000. I got some life out of it.

Well don't tell my mom but I used a 2x4 with a towel for padding, jammed it through the swingarm, stomped on the rear brake real hard, then it came loose with a 1/2" flex bar and socket. I know I'm a bad boy. Whatever it worked like a charm. Just be careful not to damage anything.

I welded a long steel bar to an old steel clutch plate to hold the hub. Has worked great on numerous projects over the years.

Put a new basket and hub in. Everything works fine. Shop had to use ridiculous force to release the nut. Supposedly Exceeded their impact
