Actually the HP isn't the difference. It's the special suspension parts that aren't available. The Yosh bikes didn't have that much more HP than many of the decent running privateers, but they sure had much better suspension, and could put the power down sooner, and brake later. The front forks are special works pieces, and you couldn't get the rear swingarms, no matter how much money you've got. Couple that with a full on MotoGP traction control system, and there is no way that a privateer bike can stay with them for the full race. When the traction control became legal, they tried an economy unit, and went slower. They brought in the MotoGP techs, installed that system and things got a lot faster. You can buy the 5k system, but you can't get the 100k system, and if you can't you aren't going to be competitive.

Great analysis, thanks. I understand how that can be seen as more power now.

traction control is lame... takes the racing away from the riders... imho

Not really. 99% of the people riding can't properly slide the bike, especially the 1000s. Traction control makes it easier to slide the bike, but doesn't effect the entry, speed, etc. It makes it easier to go faster, but the bottom line is that the winner will be the better rider, if they are on somewhat equal bikes.

I had an opportunity to ride one of the 990s with traction control a few years ago, and it was totally awsome, even for an old guy like me. No way could I have ridden that bike without it, and I suspect that would be true for 99% of the riders here.

Not to mention, with the $100k traction control system, you'll have to pay $50k+ for a skilled tech to help you setup your traction control system...

afmotorsports, suspended for 7 days after mod vote and Budman approval. Please try to remain civil to each other.

And another great example of why many people including me don't post on this forum anymore. It used to rock, now it's kinda neutered by mods who feel the need to "suspend" people over nothing. Suspend me for pointing this out, feel free, it'll be another 6 months before I bother to post anything again anyways.

Hey, I've been missing the boat here! Alex afmotorsport is absolutely correct about this guy. Many of you know who I am and as well know I am a Ducati loving twin riding mofo. There a few out there who know I love this sport and will go the extra mile to see things happen even at my own expense. I went to this Ducati dealer meeting/demo day at Laguna Seca last year at the request and invitation of Alex/afmotorsport. For me it was a 7 hour drive, two extra days off work after a long race weekend and all the expenses related to a trip of this sort. This was by no means a free track day. We were there to work. This is how it went.

We all get there at the crack of dawn and look to start helping out. These fancy fellers in nice looking Ducati shirts are working on taping up the lights on a long line of bikes for the demo rides. I decide to offer my help since I think I can handle taping up some lights on a few bikes. So I go over introduce myself and ask this guy if I could help out. He looks me straight in the eye, stands up, reaches out his hand with a roll of tape and with out saying a word drops it at my feet, turns around and walks away. I look at the other afm'ers that showed up to help out and with a smile I say, "Looks like I get the job".

Next this Ducati Alex character comes out and gets all pissed off because there were 7 of us control riders to keep an eye on like 250 track riders. He only wanted 3 witch was ridicules. The guy was a real prick and the way he handled himself was very unprofessional. It was almost enough for me to quit riding the duc's. We were there riding our own bikes, burning our own gas trying to keep a handle all these riders eager to get out on the new bikes and go wild. This Alex fellow had a ridicules set of rules (witch by the way did not mention anything about riding wheelies) that we were supposed to follow. Doug Poland and I were working with pretty good set of riders in the faster group and when we came out on the front straight we both road an awesome set of wheelies side by side all the way up under the bridge. He was on a Hyper Motard and of course I was on my bike (witch by the way had just been signed by the Maestro himself Troy Bayless). Next thing I know we are getting the black flag. We all come in and this guy waves every body including Doug by but stops me. He then starts yelling at me like I was a little kid who just broke a window after being told not to throw rocks at the house. He doesn't say, he you can't be doing that or we do not want you to be riding like that or the track officials are watching so cool it. He is yelling at me and being a real dick. I say he man I am sorry I did not realize I was just trying to make it a good show and doing what Doug was doing. I figure no problem I can ride mellow but when the conversation should have been over he keeps on me saying maybe I should load up and head out, so I look up and see that there is a nice sea breeze calling me to come down to the cost and fly my Para glider. So I oblige him and head out.

Doug says what the fuck was that all about and I say I guess there is only room for one guy to ride wheelies. He laughs and says have a good flight.

As I push my bike past Troy who was standing right there he gives me a disgusted look and says sorry mate all the Ducati guys do not act like that just the ones who can't ride! Then he laughs and I thank him again for the signature and off I go.

If I did not have many more important things to do I would have written letters to the heads at Ducati to let them know they have one big F*&king As$%ole working for them. Many of the Dealers who I know well were also disgusted after seeing this unfold. After I left things got even worse with bikes crashing right and left and the tech's sending a crashed 1098 back out on track only to leak oil from turn 3 all the way to the corkscrew. That one brilliant Fu*k up right there took like 5 riders out including Mat Green who was lucky enough to be on one of their bike and not his own. This guy made Mat put tape over the Desmoto Stickers on his bike before he would let it on the track. He started bitching how we were not there to promote Desmoto! I couldn't see the big deal but then again I'm just a Forkin Hill Billy from the hills!

OK I feel better after raking these bastards over the coals of the barf roaster and yes it’s best to not WUI (write under the influence)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this long boring piece of shit worth a suspension or was that a $25 wheelie instead of a $50 one?

Wow, so you got to meet the best, and the worst Ducati representitives in the same day. :twofinger

p.s Desmoto is better than the average Ducati Dealer.

Pat, that wheelie was worth the story! Imagine telling that one to people 20 years from now. They'll call you crazy.

"Back when I was doing a wheelie next to Doug Polen, who was also doing a wheelie.."

Ducati = fun, passion and excitement.

If I'm at an event like that I would expect that very fun, passion and excitement to manifest itself in the form of bad-ass machines being ridden by bad-ass riders showing their stuff! Instead of getting their hands slapped they should have got a :thumbup

Thats an awesome story. It was well worth it to get kicked out of that track day to have a story like that. That Ducati Alex sounds like a total choad.

Thanks for backing me up, Pat.

I guess I have a different interpretation of "name calling" than the genius patrol monitoring these forums. It's only name calling if you blurt out an offensive term, but if you back it up with FACTS then it's nothing more than describing a STATE OF BEING... which just happens to coincide with an offensive term.

And that opens the door for all of you to call me a muthaf#@ker! :twofinger

Haha... I used to be the original milfhunter before I got married, so what was her name?? :rofl :rofl :twofinger

Now let's all be careful 'round here, apparently the delicate ears of a forum named after PUKE & VOMIT are so very easily offended... :rolleyes

This Alex fellow had a ridicules set of rules (witch by the way did not mention anything about riding wheelies) that we were supposed to follow.
I am very curious about what these "ridicules" rules were. I got an eyewitness account from a rider there who had a front row seat to Tom Fournier (The Brockton, Mass. dealer who races despite losing a leg at Bridgehampton.) getting stuffed on the inside by a control rider, standing him up and causing him to go off the track. This was a dealer track day, not a race school, I believe.
Having worked Control for the Ducati REVS events at Loudon, if some of the things I was told happened at Laguna happened at Loudon, I probably would have called a few riders in for discussion.
I strongly suspect the truth lies somewhere in between the two Alexs' versions.
