How often to get a new mattress?

Every third orgy. Some people say you can push it to every 5th, but I like to be on pro-active side of things.

Ridiculous!

I was talking to Charlie Sheen and he said you can easily take it up to triple digits before you have to worry about anything.

Supposedly "within 2 years of use, one-third of a pillow’s weight comprises dead skin cells, bugs, dead dust mites and their droppings". I read it on the internet.

If true how much crap is in a 10 yr old mattress

I used 5o have one of those full size mattresses that was sacked in the center and we would end up leaning back to back against each other every morning. That was upstairs at an apartment. Then we got a house and bought one of those $3000, extra firm, pillow top, "drop a bowling ball and not knock over the wine glass" jobbies. Euro king, more square than a Cal King. With either 1 or 2 down comforters on top of it, to sleep on top of, then another comforter to sleep under, I can't even sit and watch TV without falling asleep. It's holding up after 7 or 8 years, and I don't even want to think of the damn dust mites, skin cells and the rest of the spooge. It is also a 16inch tall mattress, so on top of the regular box springs, that fucker must be 40 inches to the top.

Sleep Number - 12yrs and still counting. That works out to about $70/yr. With every passing year the cost drops by $5. When it gets to $0 I might think about a new one.

Ten years? I'd say your due, even if you've flipped it regularly. Invest in whatever separates you from the ground: shoes, tires, bed, etc.

Just got one of these about a month ago and love it.

We spent a good 40 minutes laying on it in the store and definitely preferred it over the plush version. (i'm an all sides sleeper :laughing) I have to say the salesman at the sleep train was super nice, and zero pressure so I said fuck it and bought it on the spot. He hooked us up with a good deal, and some fancy pillows. Would do it again, our old bed was so clapped.

What's the maintenance and noise level like with the Sleep Number? I've been considering one, but online reviews indicate they have to be turned often and can be a bit noisy.

I had a sleep number bed years ago. Worst fucking POS ever. Only thing in my life I've ever regretted buying. The foundation sagged after a month so they replaced it. The replacement sagged after another month. Then the pump quit just outside the warranty period. Besides that it was not comfortable on any setting and the smell never went away.

My older mattress is worn out, it has a spring inside that gets bound up and will release suddenly with a very loud thrumming sound, which scares the shit out of my big dog. He jumps off the bed with his tail between his legs. :laughing

It's about 10 years old, and toast.

Everyone is different...are you a side, front or back sleeper? Being a side sleeper, a medium firmness mattress works the best for me. :)

This thread has perfect timing, because I'm about to get a new mattress to replace the 10-year old European Sleepworks I currently have.

After testing out various mattresses at several showrooms, I've actually settled on a latex/memory foam hybrid from Ikea. For $499, that's well within my price range. Add a topper and it still comes in well under a grand, because I already have the queen size Sleepworks adjustable slat system.

Some mattresses can be flipped, others merely rotated end-for-end. I've been doing lots of research on this website...the name is quite memorable. :laughing

Sleep Like The Dead

That's why you pillow top or temper top or feather top. You customize the top to your sleep habits.

I use a feather topper on top of a temperpedic. This prevents the hot that temperpedics create but gives me the softness I really prefer.

The ability to truly customize is why I like my method. We have a king beautyrest black.

And I thoroughly read sleep like the dead before my purchase

Problem with mattress buying online is you can't try it out and see if its there firmness you like. The ghost bed, saatva, purple all look good enough for me though. Just skeptical.

I have gone with a 100% latex foam mattress which can last up to 50 years.

In the mattress world $$$ does not always = quality.
