do you turn and flip it? They last a lot longer if you don't leave them in the same position.

I used to rotate it, but I have yet to flip it. I feel like its been a few years where Ive been able to sleep comfortably on it.

When I bought my last mattress the salesman told me not to flip it, not needed anymore.....but he sold mattresses for a living so consider the source and his motivation.

What's your old one rated? 10-15 or 20 year? That would have a direct effect on my next choice in mattress.

Mine said the same thing. I took a peek at the bottom and it is a different surface than the sleepable side.

It is a name brand POS that I paid too much for. I'm considering trying one of the internet branded foam ones since they offer 100 night trials and if you don't like it they refund all your money and have somebody pick it up.

Been sleeping on a 'purple' for 2 weeks... Runs a little hotter than my old POS Ikea foam mattress, but it's incredibly comfortable so far.

Buy the hardest/firmest mattress you can and add an external pillow top. Replace the pillow top every 5 years or so.

That's my routine and I just bought my second bed in 17 years

Sounds more efficient than my plan.
I get a new bed when I get divorced.

I think some of this might depend on your sensitivity to sleep surface too.

Before I moved recently, my mattress was quite old. But I'm an easy sleeper and a deep sleeper and don't wake up with strange aches and pains.

An ex of mine could not deal with that sleeping on that mattress very often though.

I probably wouldn't follow a 10 year manufacturer suggestion but for some other people maybe 10 years is too long? I dunno.

edit: Do what yakoo said. Thread winner.

When I got divorced, I kept the Temperpedic, the house & the dog. I bought myself a motorcycle.. and a maid :p
The Temperpedic on gets turned, not flipped.

Every third orgy. Some people say you can push it to every 5th, but I like to be on pro-active side of things.

Wife and I have gone through a couple Cal Kings now, which seem to get these troughs after about a year or two. Our current mattress is less than 3 years old, and was relatively inexpensive at $900 or so, but it should have lasted longer than it has.

We also bought another nicer one, that I got some warranty credit for, but it had similar challenges, so we gave it to her parents for their guest room.

Both were medium/softer, which I don't really like but the wife gets what she wants because I really don't care. I can sleep on whatever and she can't. They both had traditional spring setups, and that had to be the issue.

However, our favorite mattress was a Spring Air foam latex mattress. Unfortunately, its a lesser known brand and seems less popular. On the hunt for one of those now.. Tempted to try tuft&needle or purple, etc. But not real sure. Tired of taking gambles.

Everyone is different...are you a side, front or back sleeper? Being a side sleeper, a medium firmness mattress works the best for me. :)

This thread has perfect timing, because I'm about to get a new mattress to replace the 10-year old European Sleepworks I currently have.

After testing out various mattresses at several showrooms, I've actually settled on a latex/memory foam hybrid from Ikea. For $499, that's well within my price range. Add a topper and it still comes in well under a grand, because I already have the queen size Sleepworks adjustable slat system.

Some mattresses can be flipped, others merely rotated end-for-end. I've been doing lots of research on this website...the name is quite memorable. :laughing

McCrosky on Market Street. Made in SF. They're expensive. Sometimes you can get one cheaper at the warehouse. We've had the queen for 15-16 years, still good as new. Had the king for 12-13 years, good as new. We flip and helicopter them periodically. We got the soft mattress with the soft bedspring. They have different choices available. I'll admit to weighing 240+.

Just my $0.02 but I got one of the memory foam mattresses for around $250 off amazon shipped to my door. Opened it, let it air up and have been sleeping on it for one year. I really like it. I think it's $250 for a queen..
