My dad was nearly killed in a motorcycle accident September 2007 I got my motorcycle license October 2008.

Ive always ridden on the back of his moto since I was a kid. With a adult sized x-large helmet. In a tshirt and shorts holding on for dear life to my dad's waist.

Once I got on a motorcycle by myself I was hooked and I never looked back. I love it and its a bond that my father and I will always share.

very cool story kim :thumbup good thread budman! lots of cool stories..

Have been a rider/moto owner continuously since 1983. Longest I went without riding was during my 3 month cross country VW van trip in '84. I won't stop until I'm physically unable to ride. :x

Lifer here as well. Started at age 7. I used to ride my little RM 80 to elementary school (gotta love growing up in rural New Mexico. Got my first street bike at age 12, and started roadracing at 13. I've had way too many bikes to count, and have probably logged somewhere in the order of 400,000 miles on two wheels (ok, some of those mile may have been logged on one wheel in my youth). Definitely not going to quit any time soon....

in some ways, my moto "life" began with a Honda 90 [purchased with grocery-earned savings] at the end of my Junior year

"life" away from home at university was aided by a 2-lane-worthy CB160

"life" attending the races [AMA Pro & AAMRR] began atop a Black Bomber CB450

"life" competing in races [AAMRR, WERA & AFM] included a potent CB500; watching Bob Tigert disappear in RD350 Production; and finally, a more-competitive [at Sears Point, anyway] XT500

"life" currently includes Tuono Joice's cast-off 'priller & the beloved, big-motor Buell
[spiritual descendant of the hairy Kosman/Perkins 70s H-D street trackers]

later [only if req'd] "life" may even include a 3-wheeler.....

Holy shit, I thought Bad Dad came back to the fold until I looked at the date :laughing.

I raced last season unknowingly with a broken neck because I refused to sit aside again. When you're a lifer it's not really by choice.

few friends and aquaintances said they got bored, others said they cant ride unless with other people otherwise they get bored.

I'm a lifer, 12 years and going. Sometimes it slows down a bit (ie: a month or two of not riding) when things get busy, other times it's 6-7 hours in the saddle for several days straight :)

Started in high school and stopped when I went to college. After having 2 room mates that had GSXRs, I said that I would NEVER get a street bike and was leaning towards dual sports. 17 years and a pre-mature midlife crisis later, I took the MSF and got myself a motorcycle. One of the best things I ever did and I don't think I will be without one until I can't ride anymore.

23 years + on two wheels and counting.

I think "lifers" arrive this way - some innate gene-specific slant that makes you truly a "rider" or doesn't. I've known people who've also been riding 20 years yet they're not really "riders" in this more subtle, sublime sense.

I tell my kid that someday he's going to have to hoist me onto my rig with a block-and-tackle the same way they got medieval armored knights up onto their steeds....

Lifer.

couple years back met up with a couple dudes riding sportbikes in the Berryessa area. we proceeded to hooligan around, and these guys were damn fast. eventually we stop, and 2 gray haired old guys take off their helmets! :wow yeah i hope i'm still riding a sportbike at 60 years old.

lol

I met a female rider once up on the roads around Tam, she was 71 [I asked]. I got to admiring her boots and she said, "yeah, this are my track boots" :laughing:twofinger
