I have been riding since I was 8. Never left the sport for too long.

What I was wondering is how many of you have seen friends take up the sport only to ditch it a little later and why?

Did they get scared?

It was a fashion statement and they moved on??

They got married and the hammer came down??

Someone told me about the fashion statement deal..friends got bike because they were cool, but lost interest in a short time.

Are you hooked for life..like me:teeth

I don't think I will ever quit unless I cannot balance or have some other disability that would take it away.

I've got about 5 years under my belt. Started in college purely for "wheels" but I see myself riding forever. I ride to relax, have fun, socialize, see the sights, and for convenience. No fashion accessories here, but I do dream of vfr.

I'm a lifer that didn't realize it until 3 years ago. Still trying to catch up with all the bikes I "should" have. :laughing

My dream is to be "granpa" tweaking/tuning on teh grandkids bikes in the pits at their races.

I know people who raced motocross as kids, parents ran a track, sponsored, etc...

They are now in thier 30's/40's. Haven't ridden since their late teens/early 20's, and they both have children my kids age and aren't pushing them towards at least dirtbikes? I don't get it?

Ever since that bad rm80, at about age 12. I had a few years out at sea when I couldn't ride (the sea is a harsh mistress... and all that). But otherwise I've been riding, and likely always will.

I look forward to my commute 'cause I get to ride my bike!

I think you can always tell a rider who will never stop being one. S/he's always looking at, cleaning, poking, prodding, reading about, fixing, or just plain f***ing with the bike.

Started w/ motocross at 13, stopped at 16 (probably something to do with getting a driver's license), and re-starting with a street bike at 36! It's great to be back.

Yeah, I can't see ever giving up riding.

Several experiences with motorcycles, dirtbikes and superbikes since I was a kid has shaped me into a lifer. My pure joy of riding has, in part, inspired at least 3 people to start themselves. 2 of them I think are lifers.

My wife was jealous of my fun, so she got a '97 GS500. She could never get over the stress of being in traffic (understandable), so she's pretty much given it up, except when we're at Laguna, she puts in her few days of riding and that's enough for her. Now the GS500 is my backup bike, and my ride is my main transpo.
