How Many of you are Lifers??

24 years in the saddle! Started riding before I could drive, haven't been able to stop. I miss thrashing around on the XL in the fields around our house where I grew up.

Motorcycles are like tattoos for some people. It's like your life/personality will somehow change if you ride a bike or get a tattoo.

The friend that bought my SV 2 years ago just *had* to try riding a bike and convinced himself that he was a great rider. Then he had a continual stream of close calls until plowing into a stopped car.

Yes.

Didn't have a bike for 6 years, but yearned for one.

Since I was 17, less 6 years, so I have had a bike for more than half my life.

PS My boss turns 80 in June- has a new BMW tourer.

Me n' Lavelle n' EastBayDave n'...

a few others I'm sure- lifers. All three have had TBI and basically were committed (or need to be committed!) enough to come back to it. Myself, I started at 8 on an old '68 Kawaski 120. By 10, I was a whopping 65 pounds and riding my dad's Z1-900 around the subdivision and driving home from Flint to Ann Arbor when he'd had a few beers. Also got to drive part of the way to Alaska in 1975 through Saskatchuwan, Alberta, and B.C. Canada. Hit 155 one day while in a pissy mood on an FJ1200. Sport bikes hooked me right there. I haven't ridden in 3 weeks now and feel like I'm withdrawing from Crack. :green To top it off, they closed A.M.P. until further notice.:cry :wtf :kicknuts http://www.arizonamotorsportspark.com/ I do it because it feels good... :sex

I hear what you and Donoman are saying as far as commitment to child.
Totally cool:thumbup

I..chose to share my Moto-life with them. To be honest both boys have such strong memories of travelling with me, sharing the experiences with my friends, watching me fall down, the success, eating cheerios because I needed tires..:p..dealing with the re-hab..the whole motorcylce deal.

I chose to raise them with the attitude that you wanna ride..cool let's do it.
Do I need you to ride...?

Hell NO! Do what you want....
I coached B-ball = 5years
Little League =10 years...

I had great days..moto-xing, road racing, playing ball...
I would not trade any of it as far as what I did with my children.
Bad Dad...is living it now.:thumbup

Consider the intense good stuff I did with those kids..vs. the chance you could die or be fooked up forever...

I always figured this is my life too..I will do ALL I can for my kids, but won't give up on my dreams, my goals...So far I guess I am lucky. Still in one piece..somewhat less than perfect :teeth

I cannot fathom leaving the loved ones behind, but I can't not ride.
It's me..part of who I am..just like Jim Doyle (KR's first manager and :barf member) this is so much a passion that it controls me....:laughing :twofinger

Very cool to see how many members here are such long term 2 wheel peeps.:thumbup :port

Lovin the 2 wheel world.

Been riding for 3 years.

Have wife and child.

Sat in my dads truck ALL day when I was 7 while he worked his butt off on construction sites and napa vineyards, me reading his stack of cycle world. Got hooked on tweek at 15 and didnt think about anything else.

Got a DUI 3 years ago and bought a bike because the insurance was cheaper.

Will trackday, will race. Will never stop riding no matter what. Riding. My anti-drug. My hobby. My love, my life.

When I am 70 I will comission the heli-bar people to make ape-hangers for my 2049 Ducati just so I can sit on it in comfort.

Nuff said.

I rode for a while, then I rode to the inside of a bottle, took me a while to get my mind right, have been riding again since 2000. Thank to sunsets, cool colors, good smells and GOD.

How in the hell could someone possibly loose interest in bikes?:confused

Get disabled & you'd understand...

Been riding at least 40 years; mini-bikes back in the early 60's, then dirt bikes, then street, then racing. Now back to street, typically twisties or drags/trackdays only....

Never quit unless I'm physically unable...:teeth

Kids at the track....all smiles.

Here is my two little mullets at Willow Spring in '87.

Moto people were so cool to them...everywhere we went they made friends, had good times with my friends and share the Moto life with me.

Both DJ and Kyle are now 6'-5" men making their way through life.

Both are sport addicts, coach kids sports and still enjoy a good race. DJ is making me a grand pa in April....he asked what should the new one call you. I said GP. Short for Grandpa with a moto conitation :teeth

Lifer, started in dirt @ 8.
Let the wife talk me into selling the bikes after we got married, due to added responsibilities.
Got rid of her and got the bikes back (well, not the old ones),
and still have the responsibilities (single dad, 14 y/o daughter, deadbeat ex). I'll ride until I die.
Some friends stopped riding when they died, some when they crashed bad enough to be scared or disabled, some still ride.
My dad is about 70, just had hip replaced, and isn't riding. He's got 2 sport bikes in the garage, though, and a classic that hasn't run in 20 years that I know of. It remains to be seen if he ever gets back on.
My step-dad is in his late 60s, still rides his Gold Wing whenever he can. My Mom doesn't ride any more though, so he's solo now.
