1982 Compound tib fib was pretty exciting. Weeds in the bone fragments and shit. Big infection. Back in the day before digital cameras. My view was compromised. Before beervirus too.

LHRB makes it in consequential. That and Bombay Sapphire...

Living well is the best revenge.

59 years of motorcycling, 800 parachute jumps over a few decades and avid alpine skier for several years (+ pole vaulter in high school).

All this and zero broken bones. Got skinned up a bunch (especially in my early parachuting career), sprained one ankle twice but that's it.

Dan

I wanna party with you, dude, totally a get-outta-injury free card.

I thought I had never broken a bone in a moto crash until five years ago when my doc told me that I had broken most of the fingers in my left hand multiple times over the years. Just no displacement. No telling on the right, probably the same and I bet most moto riders have similar damage. You know, when your finger hurts like a mofo after a crash but it works so fuck it.

Touring the back roads of Wales, pulled into a local pub one evening because there were a couple of motocycles parked in the crowd of cars.

Bought my bitters and asked the bartender who came in on the bikes. An hour later I had best friends forever and we were rolling up pants legs, shirt sleeves, exposing collar bones to show scar creds from broken bones and reconstructive surgeries.

Doesn't matter where you go, we're gonna' have all this in common. Me? Collar bone, five ribs, left wrist, and my calcaneus (don't ask).

late braking
broken wrist from grabbing the front brake before broad siding a car halfway up Mt. Fuji in Japan. Said car did a right hand turn in front of me and I flew over the car, landed on my head. Shoei RF200 saved me big time :ride

Splain what happened please? Did you hand break your fall?

Sideswiped at 35mph by a Toyota 4runner (he was almost stopped) and I supermanned over the hood. Used my left hand to put myself into a breakfall so that I was sliding on my back instead of eating the pavement with my face (only had on a half helmet) and that broke five hand bones (two hand bones, three finger bones) and my wrist. Basically got to do a headstand on the concrete at speed, yay! More thorough writeup here.

No code has to be inserted here.

You said one accident. That would be 6. I should learn to read.

Along with the 6 broken bones there was 210 stitches. This was from a bicycle, not even a motorcycle. Got a helicopter flight too.

Let's see... in one accident:

5-6 fractured vertebrae
Shattered humerus
Shattered unla and radius
4 broken ribs
Shattered femur (through knee knuckle)
Chipped patella

So, 13-14 in the big one. A few others while growing up..

Unsurprisingly, it's the soft tissue damage that sucks far worse.
Severed arm resulted in avulsed brachial plexus from the spinal cord (basically all the nerves that control the arm, pec, scapula ripped out of my neck).
Brachial artery ripped in half (this is why my lung collapsed and I flat-lined in the OR - 17+ units of blood transfused that day).
Total loss of use of the left arm as a result of the above
Torn or stretched ACL/PCL/MCL. Torn retinaculum

Still riding though! It's still the best experience one can have outside the bedroom!:laughing:ride

Looking forward to it!

Just registered last night! Picked up a new generator during the power outages so I'll be less stressed about finding power-available spots this season! Can't wait to get out there and get my ass kicked again! :teeth

20 yrs ago I had a bad dirt bike crash that left me with 12 broken ribs (and punctured /collapsed lungs), 2 fractured vertabrae and a fractured scapula (with torn rotator cuff)...and a whole lot of other "soft tissue" damage. Rotator cuff took the longest recovery though...6 months.:nchantr

I have been lucky that I have never broken more than one bone at a time, always a clean break, but unlucky in that I have done it 3 separate times.

Totally concur. Much respect for the passion to ride.

Larry,

Pretty amazing. 0.00001toe

I admit when someone asks about injuries when they find out I am a motorcycle rider I do enjoy pointing to various parts of my body.. broke this.. that.. that... that.. that.. that.. these.. those.. etc. :laughing

Missed the part in one accident so I replied to the poll incorrectly. Motocross can be a dangerous sport. Cumulatively I have broken 28 bones and had 11 surgeries including 1 splenectomy.
The most bones that I have broken in a single crash is 6 (twice) 4 metacarpals and a tib and fib. Another crash resulted in broken humerus, scapula, 4 ribs and a punctured lung and torn rotator & labrum. So twice tied at 6 with broken bones.

First post differs from the title. Most bones in ONE accident, then.

Just one bone in my hand, the one connected to my ring finger. But I dislocated my thumb in TWO places on that hand in the same crash. That ought to count for something. It was more difficult recovering from the dislocation than the broken bone.

Most bones broken in one accident was three ribs in a "bathroom accident". I was painting the top of a door frame in my bathroom, standing awkwardly on a very sturdy wooden chair when it tipped, I went down, hit the corner of the chair on my way to the floor, then couldn't breath without pain again for two months.

See the ribs on the right side - nice and smooth. Then look at the ones on the left, totally snapped and displaced. I learned a new level of pain from that one. And everybody kept asking me if I was in a motorcycle crash. "No, it was a bathroom accident." :laughing
