Yeah, I know this ain't really "Adventure Riding" stuff, but I really like it here in AdventureLand so thought I'd post it here anyway. Besides, we all had plates so that's kind of adventurey, right?

I was up in the Downieville/Lakes Basin area last month and did some highly pleasureable riding.

Passing Honey Lake Motocross Park on my way there from a dirtriding trip in WA. This looks like my kind of track!...

A campspot was easy to find, but hard for me to get into. I had about 3" of room between 2 big dark trees on the left and the big granite boulder on the right...

It was a great spot, though...

This meadow was filled with birds and firewood, and there was a beautiful creek right on the other side of it...

Pretty flower...

Got camp set up and waited for my people to show up. Once they did, we went for a ride!

We headed back to camp and sat by a rip-roarin' fire while plotting out the next day's ride.

More to come...

The next day we decided to just get out and explore the area.

Some random photos from the trip...

My buddy Dan on the left on his wife's new WR250X (look familiar, RoadsterGal?) with Avon Gripsters. Yeah, sure he bought it for his wife...:rolleyes :laughing

The tiny ribbon of trail in the foreground is the Pacific Crest Trail...

Aug09083.jpg

My buddy Dan can barely be seen having a hell of a time getting up the rocky chute on the right. I took the granite slab to the left...

Aug09085.jpg

Lotsa water in them thar hills...

Aug09086.jpg

Another view of the same lake taken from the ridge on the right. This lake spills down the chute into another lake...

We rode up to the ridge to see what we could see...

Aug09099.jpg

This entire ridge was covered in flowers...

Aug09100.jpg

These stupid trees were blocking my view...

Aug09101.jpg

So I hiked down the hill for some unobstructed splendor...

Aug09104.jpg

Too lazy to follow me...

Aug09105.jpg

Lots of mining remnants in the hills...

Aug09107.jpg

Aug09108.jpg

That supermoto rain front must not have liked all the rocks...

Aug09110.jpg

All hail the titanium tire irons!!

Aug09111.jpg

Geez...how many riders does it take??

How do you think the SM610 would have faired on this trip? Do you reserve the KTM for the drive-in rougher terain rides? I have my eye on a 610...

Great pics as always :thumbup

Thanks!

My SM610 would have fared ok on some of the dual-sporty stuff, but on a few of the rocky downhills and such...no way. Not enough ground clearance for one thing, and just too much bike for me to be muscling around. I was wishing I was on my lighweight 2-stroke for a lot of the trail portions as it was. And yeah, the 610 is mostly for the long distance dualsporty stuff and street rides. My KTM 450 used to be my dualsport bike but now it mostly sees trails and is used for reconnaissance work :teeth If I know things are going to get ugly I ride my 2-strokes.

A friend of mine has a TE610 and he rode it up there once. He took his KTM 400 the next time we went :p He's a big dude and a good rider, but the 610's have their place. Downieville isn't one of them.

I've got some more trail photos coming...

Rad stuff once again from the always rockin' WoodsChick! :)

:laughing Thanks, Higgy.

I sometimes wonder if I should change my name to RockChick, as I always seem to find myself in rocks everywhere I go. I like `em! Or maybe WaterChick :)

Coolest thing I've seen in a while. :thumbup

Thanks! That's pretty much what I was thinking while I was up there :)

Very cool pictures and write up. Looked like perfect weather too. :cool

Yeah, the weather was great! Cold at night, though.

You do some awesome rides. I really liked this pic. Looks like a fun place to ride.

By the way, I'm the same guy on the 40 mile Desert thread on ADV, T O Double D...

Cheers!

Hey, I recognize you! :wave I followed your link and read your NV story. Talk about awesome rides! I love that place and will probably go back there over Thanksgiving. I've been there the last 3 years for Thanksgiving. Hmm...maybe I should post up a report on my last ride there...;)

Thanks for taking the time to stop in and look at my photos, everyone :party
