Harley rear suspensions

Not as fast as I look.
From what I could tell, all the Sportsters have 2 or less, the Dynas are around 2 or 3.1, some of the softails actually have 4.x like a normal bike, and then the tourers are like the Dynas with some at 2 and some at 3.1.

After sag your 2 is more like 1.3 or 1.4. Might be ok some of the time but you're going to bottom that out. I saw plenty of complaints.

Not sure what you mean by "the reason for more travel is because of acceleration and angles and shortening of the drive line".

In my experience a suspension doesn't smoothly handle a bump equal to its travel. Also a small amount of travel means an even smaller sag... this probably bites you in dips and hitting multiple bumps.
Good post. I was hoping you would talk sag. :thumbup 1.3 inches is getting pretty dang ridiculous, I must admit. :laughing

At neutral sag/angle, a straight line between the transmission sprocket and the rear wheel sprocket will be the shortest distance (Drive line). Under acceleration, the rear tire moves more in relation to the frame and needs more travel. And there is more distance, so the driveline must be able to compensate, too.

As OB says, can't we all just agree that Harleys suck? I mean it's a simple concept. Harleys totally suck totally and like only total idiots would ever ride them. Sheesh guys lets agree to agree and move on to a different thread about harleys sucking in a different way other then like suspension. Like Harleys have funny handle bars. That sucks. Dude, why would someone ride a bike with funny handle bars? that sucks. Only idiots would do that. Or maybe like career criminal types who have to do that because they like joined a gang in jail and like they have to to not get killed or something. If they ride a proper street bike like a gsrx they would totally get wasted by the OGs of the russian mob. So consider that you haters, that some Harleys riders are simply riding these shitty bikes to stay alive. OK?

Now, if I could just figure out how the hell I ride hundreds of miles without raising my clip-ons, I will be golden.

Totally depends on distance and conditions And what You consider to be "riding". If being able to best cope with what may come up on the public road (gravel, cow shit, broken pavement, dead animals, etc.) Then.. You might try, taking the dirt handle bars off a MX bike, and put clip-ons on .. Enter a MX race, and see how well, Ya do.

Then..contemplate..Why would it be, that touring riders, and Adventure riders, and Motard racer/riders, and Flat track racers...in fact everyone that isn't delusioned.. But equiped to funtion best at the job at hand..
Doesn't diminish the capability of their bike..to one that races in a closed course, prepaired for road racing setting, that has the hazards of the public road, removed.

Some grasp this...Others don't..
