Harley rear suspensions

I didn't put up with the shit oil / air bladder shocks.

I bought new ones with an actual preload spring and a gas filled shock. Even with 2" of travel it rode great.

And why 2"? Because its supposed to be low to the ground (mine was anyway).

That's probably part of it. It's hard to see the travel because they don't list it on their site. I guess some of them do have 3" and the softails actually have over 4"? According to this bikez.com site. My bad. Apparently all the sportsters have like 2" and under.

But this review for example says the Road Glide has only 2" and is harsh. For a touring bike?

Why do you hate America?
:twofinger

I might hate CalTrans..I don't hate America...I didn't say anything about America...
I might ask why can't you read?

Just to set things straight, I love rough Roads..I seek out the roughest of the rough roads....Two things..they give me something to do, picking lines and if it works out, flying over the whatever, in the smooth air, VS hitting a bump or hole. And the other thing..I have those roads to myself,
cause wussy types use other roads :laughing

Only the soft tail has the look of a rigid and has the shock underneath the frame. The touring bikes, Dynas and sporties have standard shocks that work fine for their intended purpose and can be upgraded..

I know that...and I know that "intended purpose" is just another way of saying..."we make bikes for sorry ass riders that don't do anything, that put's our bikes to any test...just go down the road, like a good little boy, and Your OK"....:laughing or :rofl

I have not considered myself a "sorry ass rider" for some time.

fwiw, the Dyna has 5" of travel in the front forks and 3.1" in the rear.

Rear can be modified in a shit load of ways for less $$ than the bars on your 10r.

Dude, unless you own an '05 ZX10 you don't know what you're talking about!

Wait a minute..............................! :laughing

Can't believe how people rag on HD's, ridiculous really.

The world would be a sorry place if not for variety and choice.

When I'm out touring that's the number one brand I see out there actually being ridden and enjoyed.

More power to you HD riders. :thumbup

It's Harley that say's they make bikes for sorry ass riders, when they make them with sorry ass suspension components... I just call it the way I see it. :x

And...There is no suspension up-grade at any un-obtainum price, that will make a Harley comparible to a ZX-10R's performance...so Apples go over there...Oranges go over here. It's Apples and Oranges..
Two different things.

Are you talking about Ob1's Harley or '05 ZX10? :laughing

They're both ridiculous for different reasons. I can't get into Harleys at all so to my Harley buddies I'm a ridiculous poofster on a plastic jap bike :laughing Just a matter of perspective.

What's REALLY ridiculous is hearing everyone go "Why aren't Harleys exactly like sport bikes? They must suck." They don't suck because they're not like sport bikes, they suck because they're only good for impressing women over 40! :rofl

:laughing Exactly what I was thinking. Give me a mature, wise and experienced Lady anytime over some gum chomping kid paying more attention to her cell phone than what's going on around her.

Rode a 01 FXDX to Vegas and back, and came back thru 120 in yosemite. This is Harleys sport touring bike with adjustable spring preload, rebound, and compression both front and back (no compression back) Has higher ground clearance and dual disc brakes. While it is nowhere near the performance of a street bike, that ride taught me that there are some Harleys that handle very well for their size, weight, and older technology. I was carving those turns with precision, lots of lean angle, smoothness, and fun. Probably faster than most average street bike riders.

it was just as fun if not more fun than a street bike and I didn't feel like a douchebag on a clown bike with a screaming kazoo exhaust hanging all off the bike.

Whats even better is that there are plenty of suspension mods for these bikes including racetech gold valves/cartridges for the front forks, and fully adjustable custom tuned remote reservoir rear shocks from Ohlins or Works.

Here's a picture of the same model bike as Ob1.

I think it looks like a very nice ride. :thumbup

From specs that bike was actually reasonable. (Edit: except for weighing ~664 lbs?) But they don't make anything like that anymore.

Current ones have 3.1 inches of travel which... ok is better than some other Harleys but is still sad.

Why is it sad? Since when do you need more then 3.1 inches of travel while rolling up highway miles? More doesn't always mean better. What if it had 15 inches of a travel? Would it all of a sudden be awesome!? :ride
