Guess I'll be riding the moto more

Cycling to meet some people for a ride to work this morning and got run down by one of those recycling scavenger trucks, apparently the brakes on it weren't working. Guys spoke next to no english and bailed before the cops could arrive. All I got was a plate, I kind of doubt they had insurance. The only good part was I managed to slide on the rim and pedal before falling over which probably kept me from getting squished.

Holy crap man, call the cops pronto.
Glad you're ok.

Oh I did, that was at 6am this morning. Cops showed got the plate number and what not off me. I also have a witness, I'm not holding out much hope that anything will happen here aside from me shelling out cash for a new bike. Good thing I've got a new to my motorcycle to play with.

Meh......
Yikes!! Glad to see you're okay. You can probably contact Sunset Scavenger and find out who was driving that truck if you give them the info. Make a complaint, file a report, something. Still yikes though. Good luck!

yea you shouldn't have to say 'well, that's that'...the driver of the truck isn't responsible for your damages, the company who hired that person to drive that truck is responsible...the driver should have insurance, if he didn't and the company hired him to drive and he didn't have it then the company is at fault for putting that person on the road in that vehicle

(this is assuming that by 'recycling scavenger truck' you mean a work truck for a recycling scavenger company)

I wish it was Sunset, then I'd know who was paying for my new toy :) This was a couple of... privateers for lack of a better word. I'd be surprised if the vehicle was registered.

Even if you can't get compensated by them, what they did was a hit-and-run, and you can have them taken off the road so they don't ruin anyone else's bike - or worse.

That's my hope, I filed a report with the cops and have a witness. Given that they told me the brakes weren't working when they hit me I'd hate to have this truck run a red light and take out someone. I'll definitely go after them if they are caught.

Quick, get that bike on Craigslist with a 'just fell over in the driveway going 2 mph' description of the damage.
