Got what I deserved

Been parking my bike on the street since I bought it, went to move it for street sweeping tonight and found it had been tipped over. At least someone righted it. No major damage, small dent in the tank, bent brake lever and the bar end mirror tweaked the end of the bar. Other than that I didn't find any cosmetic damage and it fires right up. Still lame though.

There was a car parked within inches of it, but I don't think anyone would leave their car after knocking over a bike. Took pictures of the scene anyway, but I doubt there is anything I or a cop could do without a witness.

I'd claim it if you have comprehensive coverage....

I wonder how insurance differentiate here between collision and comprehensive for such situation with bikes:

collision = you dropped your bike
comprehensive = something (force of nature or unknown) made your bike dropped

on both cases your bike is dropped.

Insurance companies only really care about how much you cost them. Think about it for a second.

One of the things I love about the Buell is that is seems nearly impervious to being backed over. Between rich housewives and crackheads I've totally lost count of how many times that thing has been knocked over.

Zero damage. Of course, I don't actually like my shit shiny and have hit the radiator covers with a rattle can a couple of times.

I do have comp, but I'm not sure the premium increase would be worth it, especially for a relatively cheap bike. I'll probably have someone smarter than me give it a once over to make sure I'm not missing anything major.

From what limited knowledge I know, comprehensive claims should not raise your rates. They aren't supposed to raise your rates if you're not the one at fault. Call your agent to ask.

If it's only a couple of nicks and you can live with it, then don't bother. But if the bike was pristine before and you won't be happy otherwise, then either claim it or pay for it out of your own pocket.... but if you're paying for comprehensive, this is something that should be covered.
All in all, it's your call. But it wouldn't hurt you one bit to discuss your options with your agent....

You need to be truthful. Keep in mind damage is a signiture of events the bike will not lie to an experienced damage adjuster.

Comp won't cover it, because it was a traffic accident. At least that's what Progressive told me when my bike got backed over.

Now, if the wind knocked it over...

Were you parked in a space that can fit more than one car?

Consider putting a cone or two to the left and right of you bike to occupy more space. Or some tempurpedic pillows might work too in case someone tipped it over.

after about the 6th time when that has happened to me, I'd feel like a broken record complaining about it.

this parking situation has to stop, these a**holes have to stop doing this to bikes (or cars.)--parking so close that they are ALWAYS hitting them! Have they no proper behaviour? Oh right.. it's because of the kids.

I know, for a fact, that comprehensive under some companies DO cover getting your shit backed into and knocked over.

Whether the replacement of the bits involved warrants jacking up your premium, if it does at all, is up to your carrier and pocketbook to decide.

For the extent of damages in a case like this, the price-tag can wind up being alarming. Shops and adjusters will take note of every part involved, even the barely scuffed ones. If your morals are flexible, you can parlay the insurance payment into other 'things' if you care less about cosmetics.

Dealer dropped my bike off service stand. Progressive told me the same thing. Bike came in contact with ground - collision coverage. That said the dealers insurance covered the repairs and deductible to my insurance. My insurance involved because dealer first hid the damage and did not disclose till after the fact.

Could possibly argue the point - in my case I did not because no fault and repairs were covered.

My bike has beened knocked over 2 times and the insurance covered it without an increase to my premium. You probably have a totaled bike and will be getting a nice check.
