I can see the benefit of having a HUD actually, less time to look at the gauges/display since everything can literally be projected onto the HUD (or at least the critical ones - speed, tach, gear number, fuel gauge, etc.).

I am curious to see how the thick part (the unit) would fit on one side in the helmet with the padding and all.

WOW!

- wear this during an exam.

- hook this up to a servo-controlled gun and shoot what you look at - first step to Iron Man.

Iron Man? I would go back to Blue Thunder... anyone remember that one? :laughing

I should've said home-made Iron Man. I suspect the Blue Thunder type military look-to-shoot thing costs more than $1.5k. :laughing

DAMN there are so many things this would be amazing for!! my mind is exploding

practicing my trumpet, i could have the music scrolling in front of my eyes. maybe a visual metronome. what if i could get cue reminders while playing in orchestra! what if i were in a live show on stage, like a rock concert, and i could control electronic audio or visual effects while my hands are tied up on a guitar.

at the manufacturing plant i work in, i could document things in a flash if i could connect the databases i'm building in filemaker pro with google, and have corrective and preventive actions noted on the fly. maybe get on the fly pareto charts or fish bone diagrams built from the quality data we are collecting, that pop up on the glass while i'm looking at something physically in my hand on the factory floor.

working out at the gym, i could have the glass record the weights and reps as i count them out, and maybe show me what i did last time, instead of having to stop and pull out my notepad. i could pull up videos or pictures of technique demonstrations to mimick while i'm doing the exercises. i bet that thing could also pick up your heartbeat from your temples and monitor that.

i could be riding around on the moto and program it to record a 10-second video every time i say "SHIT!" or "F**K!" i could record my lap times at the track without pushing the lap button with my clutch hand right when i need to concentrate on braking really hard. it could show you your sector times. it could blink where you braked the last time jesus this thing could turn us into superhumans, not lazy bastards

This is just scratching the surface.

I was lucky to have tried glass a few months back and it is pretty fucking cool. Granted I was on an early prototype and they are still a few months out of consumers hands, there is no way the unit I tried is fitting under a helmet. Also, the interface is a bit clumsy, the battery is pretty small so it had to have pretty aggressive power saving, it shuts off in 15 seconds of no use. To activate it again, you have to look up quickly to turn it on and then say "OK Google" to bring up the menu. You frequently use hand gestures on the right side control pad to function it and the interface is pretty awkward. Definitely not motorcycle friendly even if it fit.

The HUD is not in front of your eyes, it is above your right eye. If you are looking straight then you don't see anything. Looking up all the time is not gonna help your riding. That said, the navigation is pretty cool.

I would like to see a better interface, better camera, longer battery life, thinner units and an adjustable HUD, but overall its pretty sweet and I will be getting one. I'm sure there have been several improvements since I last tried it and the units that ship in a few months should behave much better, I just don't think they will be motorcycle friendly anytime soon.

Of course it is. That's only thinking about it for a few minutes, I wonder what we would come up with after wearing it around for a few weeks or months.

Not sure if you're agreeing with me that this thing is cool, or trying to put me down?

And yeah, I definitely put in an application, this would be really fun........I figure I'll deal with that $1500 if I get to that bridge (gulp)

"Scan club for big titty girls".

Scan facial expressions to determine if self esteem is low.

Save target for future reference

Operation dinner out is a go.

I can see how the battery would be the Achilles' heel on this thing, while it has been advancing fast, it still is the weakest link in current electronic devices.

In that case, for motorcycle use, I wonder if an adapted Recon Instruments would work better. Being a remote display/add-on/plug-in for Android/iPhone devices, it should still be able to display what's needed using the smartphone's processing power. It can project the display to the faceshield and have a bigger power unit embedded within the helmet.

Didn'd Ralf Schumacher test a prototype of HUD in helmet when he was racing F1 for Toyota way back?

Honestly, the glass and anything like it should be illegal while operating any vehicle.

While having something that displays speed, gps, has camera function and whatnot would be awesome for the responsible user, how many people out there already can't get around the convenience of having a phone or computer right there in their car/on their person to check facebook or game scores or texts on? Having it all right there in your face isn't going to make anything safer.

However, in other applications, yes, it has potential to be kickass. I'd love to record me painting or drawing from POV. Wear one at work and keep unreasonable customers from getting too dramatic....

But of course then there will be the dillholes who use it to take pictures down shirts and size up asses.

I wish I had enough faith in humanity to be properly excited about this but I really don't. I kind of dread it.

I love it when people pass judgment on something that they have zero experience with. Have you used this? Do you know that it's distracting and can't be operated intuitively?

While we're at it, why don't we also outlaw radios in cars, passengers, scenery, or anything else that would require a driver to, you know, pay attention. I agree that distracted driving is a problem, but FFS where does the nannying end? There are already laws against distracted driving. We don't need more laws, we need to improve the level of training of drivers. I've somehow managed to live just fine driving for the last 25 years while occasionally eating, tuning the radio, talking to passengers, and yes even (shudder) talking on the phone.

It's just the natural progression. Glasses, contacts, chips lodged in yo brain.

Ever seen the movie "Surrogates"? It's our grandkid's future :wtf

While we're at it, where's my Soylent Green? I'm ready for breakfast.
