I ride a lot of mountain roads in the Bay Area and the Sierra. Sight lines are, for me anyway, the only way to go. I've encountered too many surprises when that little voice in your head says "man, you would have just eaten it if you took that turn blind." My general play is the slow in, fast out method and putting situational awareness first. Too many unknowns if you're not visually on top of what's ahead. I also stack my mountain riding baseline meaning there's a level of safety and awareness always prerequisite, followed by variants like seasonal changes that bring deer in Autumn, rock falls in the winter, and oily roads after the first spring rains - all bad karma on turns. Going through turns on grades is a rush, but doing it without visual confirmation outriding your site line seems like asking for it.
