Wow!!! I love the dapper look! :love :love :love

guys are dressed so grody now a days.. it's refreshing to see a man in a good fitting suit. I've ot the men's wearhouse by where I live. I need to go in there and just walk around and pretend i'm shopping lol :laughing

Even when I don't dress up, I make sure my casual clothes are fitted and compliment my body shape. This is my basic jeans and t-shirt uniform: simple and elegant everyday Timex weekender with a leather Nato strap, black low-top Cons... I agree. I get as physical, sweaty and dirty as any other man, but baggy, weird fitting t-shirts... baggy jeans and an ill look aren't my thing. I abhor sweatpants, flip-flops, pajama pants, tank tops, etc. worn out of environmental context.

I wasn't always this way regarding dressing, but found myself caring more about the way I dressed as a way to show mutual respect to the people around me and for myself.

I also take great care in the items most people never see. Like undershirts, socks and underwear. I wear the same color brand size underwear only. I don't have different ones just a stack of the same black undies. Nobody cares.

As my body goes downhill, my clothes are getting better! (Hey, there's a benefit to middle-agedness I guess.) I wouldn't say I dress up a lot outside of work, but hell, I'll even get my PJ's tailored to fit right. You never know if you'll have to run outside because of a fire in the middle of the night and you'll get interviewed on the news...I wanna look my best. :laughing

Getting back on topic though--I just gave the hubby a personal stylist's services for his birthday. Two benefits: he looks good; I don't need to deal with his styling crisis for 3 hours on a Sunday. :thumbup

That's a generous gift!

The website I get/got a lot of tips from is Gentleman's Gazette. Really helped me when I felt lost regarding this stuff :)

Raphael does articles about well-dressed men, but I did ask him why I hasn't done any articles about African American Black men (especially those in metropolitan areas) who have been the most dapper dudes I have ever seen. I'm not a SJW, but I think we can learn a lot about the relationship between cultural/societal shifts and the influence on style.

I know the poorest Filipino men back in the 1930's also dressed extremely dapper.

On a real note, I have about 5-6 suits, and a fair share of slacks and shirts.

Kinda just what happens when you work at Nordstrom. They give you money and you give it right back to them.

Glad I did though. There's always a use for a suit. I didn't really care about them before having to sell them.

Sometimes I wear a suit for no reason at all so they don't just sit in my closet never used.

While I have no doubts $1000+ fully lined suits from reputable tailors last longer, are more durable, "wear better" and are perhaps more comfortable, but for people like me that rarely wear them, such a suit would be a waste.

Also if one is considering a suit, don't buy a black one if its your only suit unless you're a funeral director.

I had a pair of Betabrand Japants. They were awesome. They no longer make them but I got their replacement ones. They're vastly superior to jeans for casual at home relaxing.

Bought a new black suit two years ago. Wore it once. Not once with the exception of a formal event, did I find any reason to wear it.

I buy vintage jackets for the most part, but I like that look. I have an athletic build, so I do like the modern cuts. Men were not built like they are today, so I have to watch out to get jackets with little or no shoulder enhancement. I can’t wear old cuts of pants or trousers - my quads/ass-to-waist ratio absolutely don’t work with those old cuts. Dress shirts, too, have to be modern for me. They need to be cut right for my build.

I find most executive types in their 50s and 60s fall into two categories:

- They've always known how to dress and dress to their body type
- Are fat and wear sports jackets that swim on them. Kind of like Trump

I feel best when wearing a crisp white medium spread collar shirt, with collar stays, and fine pair of charcoal grey pants with a mahogany belt and matching shoes. You can throw on the matching jacket and look like a million bucks.

I'd hang myself in the doorway if I had to wear a suit everyday :laughing I wear camo cargo shorts, heavy metal t-shirts and Vans. It would be super out of character for me to dress any other way. Work requires me to wear work pants and shirt.

But when the rare occasion to look good comes up (twice a year at most), I try my best. I'm not trying to impress anyone. If my wife thinks I look good, that's all I need.
