Filmed my (near) death today

You may have been able to reduce your lean angle if you did get off of your Beemer--as they do on the track.

Now... what would you have done if there was an oncoming car? Could you have done anything different?

I have about 20 min of more video where everything was fine, I was concentrating on getting off the bike, kissing mirrors...the whole nine yards. I just screwed up and brain farted in this one corner and nearly paid the price. In retrospect, I probably reverted back to my dirt ways (I rode dirt a lot more than street growing up) and crossed up on the bike. The mind is one thing, the video is another. It's also a lot different going from a track bike to a touring bike as far as body/riding position.

There is a certain luxury of knowing a car WASN'T there and instead of pushing the situation and low siding, of letting it go. All I can do is speculate as to what I would have done if a car was there. Die comes to mind or straight lining the corner into the hill another! :laughing

I had to make an "emergency"" decision like that once. I did crash, but am here to tell of it. (I picked the hill versus the car.) :|

Hey I love that road, thats where my favorite campsite is, Union Reservoir and Loon Lake on the way to the Rubicon Trail.

Nice save n10sive, we were at RFR together, see you at the track again soon.

I've done that exact move in the far past, I decided to put it into the mud on the left shoulder...rear braked it to a stop and dismounted...shook for about 5 minutes, cleaned the shit stains off my Ninja 250s seat then jump back on the road to meet with the group. All in all great save IMO. Good teaching tool for the rest of us, you are a brave one posting it on BARF ;).

Wow, you were dragging hard parts there? Not a lot of clearance on that bike.

There is actually a lot compared to a straight touring bike, and enough that there are no chicken strips on the tires. But...every bike has a limit. Happened to find it on the bimmer in a bad spot.

Thanks for posting this up. Takes a lot of balls to face up to your mistakes, takes even more to post it on BARF and receive all the e-hate.
If there was rep you would get some from me.

I did the same maneuver a month ago on Kurt~flying_hun's North Bay goaty ride. Except my going over the DY was on a blind right-hander. I was simply carrying too much speed and didn't brake until I had crossed the DY. Had a car been coming in the opposite lane, I would have struck or been struck by it easily. (And obviously since it was a blind right-hander I couldn't observe any vehicle coming towards me. The collision would have been a surprise for both the other drive and me.)

Sorry. But it's not a neath death experience when no vehicle is coming at you. It's just a stupid rider mistake. And definitely one not to be repeated.

put some foam over that mic, I don't hear any "scraping" all I hear is wind noise :p

only thing the sux about the VHoldR. I am actually trying to find an old microphone that I can steal the wind foam off of to try that. Tried tape, cotton...no luck. Have to get the wind OFF the camera. :(

We need new pornos!
I have the Hero camera, though I'm not sure how to reduce wind noise since the holder is waterproof and therefore doesn't even have holes for wind to get into :confused

Are you saying the VHolder is waterproof? nooo...got all kinds of holes in it. The whole back is just a rubber plate to cover the battery and xsd card. Not even close to waterproof.

Umm....good to see that this video ended with the rubber on the ground. +1 for owning up to it and for showing everyone what not to do.
