Filmed my (near) death today

Interesting thing about this road was there were not a lot of cautionary speed signs that had you go slower in some of the tighter turns. Not knowing this road is a liability because of that.

Try Scotland some time - if they put up a cautionary sign, you KNOW it's going to be a really tight turn... damn rally drivers, the lot of them. :rofl

Have you tried practicing testing the vanishing point?

Too fast is the first thing that comes to mind :laughing

Seriously...we were mostly doing speed limit + 5 over for the entire ride due to an increase in LEO activity on the mountain roads this year. However, when we get to corners we just do the same speeds as the straights. In this corner, since I wasn't paying attention to even the important stuff...I don't know what my speed was.

I appreciate the safe speed info, as it LOOKS like the pace was not a problem, but I've never filmed my ride and compared the view to my memory. Again, your point about the lack of caution speed signs is exactly why I ALWAYS go below my comfort zone speed limit whenever I am on a new road.

To me, it's a matter of survival, and I also slow down in a cage on unknown roads.

Thanks again for the video, as it helped me a lot.

Ice House Rd!! Crap man, I drive a 4WD Toyota, and I've driven Ice House heading to the Rubicon. On a busy weekend, you are way lucky!

I agree; usually that road has rubber-neckers floating over the line at you all the time. Lucky and well-handled. Glad to hear this wasn't about a hospital ride! :thumbup

bro, is she right? Were you worried about filming the front rider and not thinking about your own? There you go, all on a new road.

Yeah...I think that was already said. That is why I fixated on the bike and not the turn. It happens...and hence I'll give this warning since a lot of people have helmet/bike cams these days. It is VERY EASY to become fixated on your 'subject' which when filming, is not the road :(

I have another video filming another bike on another day (my first time) which shows the difference between looking at the road vs. the bike. Strange phenomina was that the bike I was filming was always in the focal point of my attention on the road...which means he was pretty far away most of the time.

Lucky, lucky, lucky.....

Methinks you had lean angle left. You know what you did wrong. Focusing on the rider in front instead of the road. Maybe not setting up for the turn properly. Focussing on the outside of the turn. Not leaning enough. And in general, not riding your own ride.

Take it for the wake up call that it is. Often times riders don't get them. They just die or get hurt. Lucky.........

Wheeewwww!!! god loves you man!

Good thing you didnt panic(break hard and stand the bike up)or you woulda been down for sure. You just excepted you were going wide and dealt with it. You kno you just gotta get rid of the bimmer now that you know you need more for the street. You werent going too fast it seemed u just needed a bike thats on the same page with your riding.

Sorry I haven't mastered the linky thing here.
Glad you are ok, that would have shaken me up.
B

Thanks for the linky. Oh well...everyone is entitle to their opinion and as long as people are discussing "my" mistake and if it keeps them upright, cool.

Who knows...could have been bad body position too. It's hard to tell when the camera is mounted off to one side too. It's one thing to FEEL how you are on a bike, it is another to SEE how you are on the bike.

The wiggling they noticed? Yeah...death grip...whatever. That was the point were traction was lost. Wonder what THEIR handlebars would be doing in that situation :laughing Good observation on the shitty road there too.

FWIW, I started to go to the track this year to learn better body position, and to practice ON the track and not the road. And yes, the instructors say my head is too much to the center...and I have been working on 'kissing' the mirrors.

See! :)

Anyway, everyone is entitle to their opinions and monday morning quarter backing is normal. I opened myself up to criticism by posting here but it is a "CRASH ANALYSIS" thread isn't it? :teeth They are posting in a "Ride Well" thread so they are there to be critical. I can take the criticism...cause that is how you learn yes? I did find it funny that people were discussing 'body position' on a BMW forum :teeth

Happy riding everyone.

That looks like pretty good body position there, you've got that sucker over pretty good. Were you using a head cam and was it dead center on your head?
That's what a few of those old dogs were talking about.
By the way, make no mistake, a lot of those guys can ride. It ain't the bike . . .
I remember a few months ago someone was posting a vid of a guy on a Goldwing on the Dragon, sparks were flying on every corner and that guys was moving . . . it was a hella display of some amazing riding.

You may have been able to reduce your lean angle if you did get off of your Beemer--as they do on the track.

Now... what would you have done if there was an oncoming car? Could you have done anything different?
