Damn, awesome numbers on that bike and it looks good too. Too bad the seat isn't lower, this would be an awesome bike for my wife. The monster 696 has a seat height of 30.3" this KTM is 31.5" so I think we are gonna have to go for the monster

Before you decide I would have her go and sit on one. Never know, the seat could be skinny and make up for that slight difference. Or just take out a bunch of preload so it sags a bit more. It's got to be loads lighter than a Monster.

I second that.

Was also eyeing the duke as a bike for the lady/second bike for me.

Good idea guys, I won't mind checking one of these out. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long after March. The Monster 696 I think is about 410lbs wet and the claimed dry weight of this one is about 306 so wet 346/356? About the same as her cbr250 right now but with almost twice the HP. $5k is a killer deal also

The duke will likely have better suspension as well.

I think the only problem you'll have with one of these is getting one. I have a feeling they'll be like the FZ-09 and be sold before they hit the floor for a while. For the sake of KTM continuing production, I hope that's the case.

This was taken from KTM's technical specs. I'm surprised the 390 Duke is about the same weight as my 690.

2009 KTM 690 SMC - Specifications
Engine type Single cylinder, 4-stroke
Displacement 654 cc
....
Weight (no fuel) approx. 139.5 kg (305.4 lbs)

2015 KTM 390 Duke - Specifications
ENGINE
Design 1-cylinder 4-stroke engine, water-cooled
Displacement 373.2 cm³
....
Weight without fuel approx. 139 kg

If its like other ktm's the seat will be skinny and as comfortable as a board. Range will be limited by the durability of your ass and not the size of the tank.

Other than price I'm not sure why anyone would want a 390 Duke over a 690 Duke.

These small bikes look awesome until I actually go sit on one in the showroom, and the suspension compresses almost to the stops and the cockpit feels like I'm sitting on a kid's BMX bike. I'm not that big a guy (6'1"/175) and these bikes just feel tiny to me. I can't understand who fits on them. I thought the CBR250 was really cool in pictures, then I went and sat on one.

Midgets, like me.
But I also loved a R80GS (37" seat) that required flubber shoes for me to get on. Great bike, just couldn't stop anywhere without almost getting off.

Second that. My <5' wife bought a B-last because of the 25" seat height, but found that she could ride my X1 at about 30" because it has a narrow seat.

Thoughts on this instead of a DRZ supermoto?

I've had my eye on a DRZ for a while now, but the one thing slowing me down is the lack of freeway ability. Maybe is will be as much of a hooligan with a little better gearing for the freeway?

How much time do you spend on the freeway? I commuted across the bridge on mine for a year and never had an issue.
