Covidween -- What are your plans?

So.. we are leaving the house dark and not doing candy hand outs for the first time in my life. I love seeing the little kiddos having fun, but with the pandemic thought not having to deal with putting a mask on and off a bunch of times would be good.

I know my old man is doing the same.

Thought about putting out self service bowl, but that means comingling germs for the kids too.

You handing out candy??

My neighborhood has been pretty vocal about not doing anything.

Most families are multigenerational living, ie toddler and grandparents living together, so lots of additional risk

We're doing the same as you Dennis.

Seems the logical thing to do.

But if for some reason a kid(s) knock on our dark door, (unlikely as we never get many even with the light on and decorations up), we do have over a dozen cans of sealed Altoids to disappoint them with! :laughing

Altoids, what you didn't want for Halloween.

We aren't handing out candy and the house will be dark.

I may be going to a Halloween ride in SF, not sure.

I'll be putting a sign out in front of my house spray painted onto a large piece of cardboard saying "Closed due to Covid". In my neighborhood, the only way to turn off the lights in front is to unscrew the bulbs, and I won't be doing that.

And this will be the first year ever for me with no Halloween candy in the house at all. That alone ought to save me a couple of pounds on my on-again off-again diet. :laughing

Any stranger, including children, are not appropriate or welcome at this time. The whole sugar aspect of halloween kind of disgusts me anyways, but hell no we aren't keeping our lights on this year.

but

my 13 yo daughter has ranked up to first class scout and has been put in charge of creating an orienteering course at a park tomorrow. She's planning the course and has told her fellow scouts to dress up in their costumes (with masks). They'll be distanced too. It's going to be a hoot seeing all these cool girls running around in their costumes with maps and compasses, haha.

Absolutely nothing in regard to candy.

I've got a 28'x7.5' covered walkway from my driveway to the front door, I might put my fog machine, various glow in the dark scary objects, and a blacklight out there, just in case there are some kids out. :devil

Lights out. No candy or trick or treating for the first time with the kids. Going to my sister's house to do backyard Halloween activities, and probably eat junk food, with their family/kids and a few others.

Yes, Halloween was long time ago hijacked by commercial interests to sell tons of sugar products.

You say that like it's a bad think.

We have some good, totally appropriate advice and discussion for COVID precautions from the Oregon Public Health Division.

Our street off Piedmont Avenue has seen a pretty significant influx of babies and little kids in the last few years. Once Covid arrived they formed a “bubble” and all started meeting out in the street with their parents in the evenings (usually right in front of my house as I’m settling in with my computer or the TV...) to play and scream and run around. The block list began emailing a week or so ago about a plan. The kids are going to have a costumed parade up and down the street and neighbors are going to put out individually wrapped treats in sanitized baggies for the kids. I think there are going to be 15 kids. I’m kinda wishing we were going to be there for it. We’re at our place in the mountains installing our new wood stove. It’s 34° right now. Supposed to get cold next week.

Today, we won't be handing out candy. I don't expect anyone anyway.

But today is:

o Halloween.

o We celebrate my cats birthday (we brought here home on Halloween, and, yes, the shelter let us adopt a black cat on Halloween). She will be 10 years old.

o A Full moon

o A BLUE moon

o Daylight savings time.

Quite the day.

What name did you choose for your Cat?

Cat names we've used since my wife and I got together a million years ago.
