Hi Rick,

Yes you would be covered, because it was not a scheduled emergency airlift, it would be an unexpected incident. Let say you were not a member and you had an airlift and tried to sign up after....you would not be covered.

It's like trying to buy car insurance after you have had an accident, it does not work that way.

Got it, thank you for clarifying.
Coverage extends to those in my household, right?
If a dependent is 18 and away at college are they covered?

Yes, this covers everyone living in your household. Definitely cover you children in college, as long as they use your address as their permanent address. If your child is in college I highly recommend the full coverage option with the, Fly U Home!! If your child is hospitalized in another, you can fly your child back to a hospital, close to home for recovery.

Was having an issue trying to sign up on the website and Tracy called me back, even on a Sunday, to help me out :thumbup great BARF discount too :thumbup:thumbup

**Attention California Residents A Word from the California Department of Managed Health Care
(A) BEFORE YOU PURCHASE: If you are currently enrolled in a health maintenance organization (HMO) or other health insurance, the benefits provided by an Ambulance Plan may duplicate the benefits provided by your HMO or other health insurance. If you have a question regarding whether your HMO or other health insurance offers benefits for ambulance services, you should contact that other company directly.
(B) WARNING: This Ambulance Plan is not an insurance program. It will not compensate or reimburse another ambulance company that provides emergency transportation to you or your family. This may occur when the 911 Emergency System has independently determined that another company could provide more expeditious service or is next in the rotation to receive a call. This might also occur when this Ambulance Plan is unable to perform within a medically appropriate timeframe due to a mechanical or maintenance problem or being on another call.
(C) COMPLAINTS: For complaints regarding this Ambulance Plan, or if you have questions regarding the Plan, first attempt to call REACH/CALSTAR/Cal-Ore at 1.800.793.0010. If REACH/CALSTAR/Cal-Ore fails to resolve the complaint to your satisfaction, contact the Department of Managed Health Care at 1-888-466-2219. The Department's website is http://www.healthhelp.ca.gov. You may obtain complaint forms and instructions online.
(D) OPERATING UNDER CONDITIONAL EXEMPTION: This Ambulance Plan is operating pursuant to an exemption from the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975 (Health and Safety Code section 1340 ct seq.)

Hope this helps you!!!

So I was looking through my blue cross blue shield (fepblue) plan and it says that ambulances are covered either 100% or I pay a $100 deductible as long as it is deemed medically necessary. Now I understand that unless EMS on scene screws up and flys me when I don't need it that I might be on the hook.

However.... would I be on the hook for the difference if the flight is say $30,000 and my plan says I only pay my $100 deductible but insurance only pays them $10,000? Regardless of whether I have insurance or not, airmedcare or not, conscious or not, if I need a helicopter, I'll end up in one.

That's a question better posed to your insurance carrier. AMCN can't know your terms and exclusions.

Hi Koolaid,

These are great questions. Your insurance may state, "ambulance" but does not state helicopter air ambulance. So you may want to inquire with your insurance agent. If your insurance company states an airlift was medically not necessary, you will have to pay the entire bill.
Now if you have Membership coverage with Calstar/AirMedCare Network you will have no out of pocket costs and we pay your insurance deductible. Membership coverage also covers everyone living at your residence and in 38 states. We also have a, Fly U Home coverage, no insurance will cover.
If you want to contact me directly, we can discuss all the options and scenarios.

Does the above scenario payout apply even if the helicopter is not affiliated with the Calstar/AirMedCare Network?

Membership coverage is within our network of EMS air ambulance. We recommend carrying your Membership card next to your drivers license. You also want to let, first responder's, doctor in a hospital or 911 operator that you are part of our network. Membership covers you in 38 states, 320 bases, and we are constantly expanding our footprint across the United States. We have several different branded helicopters within the coverage. You also can go to my website to see the coverage map and the helicopters that cover the areas.
