^^^^ Seeing that was an amazing thing!!!

Doing that was amazing, too! I couldn't think of a better occasion to get my happy ass out of the chair and do my first "walk" either.

The great part is, today I'm a little sore after yesterday's events but I'm not in pain like I thought I would be. I'm firmly on the way to recovery finally!

Looking back, I still can't believe I am where I am in just 2.5 short months after .... that. I'm sure that my positive outlook and my determination is playing a big part in it but it's still my body doing its thing too. I'm going to be back on the track before I know it! heh

I'm not really sure if the details just yet, but there WILL be a short little ride this weekend. It might just be around the block and it might be as far as posers. I just don't know, but oh yes, it's happening this weekend! That is as long as I can get someone to get one of the bikes out for me! :teeth :laughing :ride

That was your first time walking??? :wow
If you're going to get on the bike, please be careful... don't over-do!
And I'll get you the Ninjette later this week, OK?

It wasn't my first time walking, but it was my first time taking more than 4 steps away from the chair. Particularly without a wall or something I could grab hold of. To be honest, I figured if anything went wrong there were plenty of people around that would understand and be able to hold my ass up.

As far as riding, I can ride just using my upper body and still keep a slow B pace! :p But no, I don't plan on pushing it. I'm actually feeling pretty damn good today. If I feel like this tomorrow I can probably have a decent little jaunt.

And just let me know when you're ready to run the Ninjette up. I'll be here pretty much all the time aside from an appointment on Thursday at 2. I'm pretty sure I know a place it will fit parked for the next few weeks. :)

Hi Paul! You don't know me, but I've just read all 39 pages of this thread. Your story is amazing and your recovery even more awesome! I'm glad you're starting to walk. Take it easy on the riding; broken bones take a long time to heal back to normal, even though everything might feel fine.

And everyone on BARF has been wonderful! Props to you guys, too!

Ozymandias,

I've gotten to the thread very late, but I just wanted to say that it's amazing to see how far you've come and I wish you all the best for you to make more than a complete recovery.

I know that sounds odd, but from my own experience, it's actually possible to be in "better" shape after something like this. Even though I have slightly reduced range of motion in certain directions, the battery of excercises, and stretching, and strengthening drills are 10 times more than I was doing BEFORE my accident.

Following that after accident excercise regimen in areas like using the treadmill, I can go farther and faster than I ever did when I was "healthy"

Not that anyone would want to have a critical injury as their inspiration to toughen up more, but it's just good to know that you're in a position that you can do this, instead of go backwards.

I wish you all the best!

'Twas good seeing you up and about on Saturday, Paul. Keep plugging away at it, and you'll be good as new.

Hey, guess what I'm doing! I'm gearing up for my inaugural ride! A friend of mine is coming over here this morning to drag out one of the bikes and we're going to see... well, what I can tolerate. :)

I can't believe you've come so far in such a short period of time! Have fun, BE SAFE, and let us know how it went! :banana :ride

Of course I'll be safe. Taffie would probably have my hide if I wasn't. Star Man (Greg) is the guy that will be following me. I can't think of someone I would rather have watching me than him. He'll be able to pick up things probably before I do and cut it short if it has to be.

I'm sooooooooo looking forward to this though. The past 10 weeks have been hard and this is my reward! If you weren't so far away I'd tell you to get your butt up here and join us. :) This still won't be what I call an honest to god ride. That won't be for another few weeks yet, but it still is going to feel ooooooooooooh so good!

Congrats, Paul! That's a great photo! :cool I know this has probably seemed like a long time - and it has been - yet your return to walking is surprisingly fast considering the seriousness of your crash. You continue to be one lucky guy. :thumbup

Oh my GOD!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never felt so good in my life! I made it all the way to posers and back!

The ride out was definitely a slower pace but I was able to wick it up a little on the way home. Definitely no GP type pace by any means but certainly faster than I thought I would be able to pull so quickly.

I'm kind of paying for it now. The separated shoulder is telling me "dumbass!" but... It was worth it!

There are a few pictures I'll post later when I get a chance to rest. I just wanted to post to make sure everyone knew that the first ride was a complete success and I was even able to put more miles on me than I thought I would.

Yeah, I had a bit of a time kicking the leg over either direction. I had to grab the pant leg to pull it back over when I was getting off the bike.

You wanna know the real freaky thing? Today I've been able to walk around the house a little WITHOUT support. No cane, no holding onto walls, nothing. Granted, it's still massive limping, but I'm able to do it without having to hold myself up.

I.... I'm kinda floored by that. :wow
