Steee-riiike!
what do you guys use for fermentation temperature control? converted fridge?

I have a wine chiller but it has a glass door and I think it's very inefficient. Have been looking up new ideas.

thx

I got a bonus a couple years back that paid for a heated and cooled conical from More Beer. Hindsight, I probably could have made 2 of them myself for the same price.

Still Good Lookin'
And since I've been reminded of this thread, I made an interesting blonde three days ago, and a nice brown mild two days ago. In addition to the porter that's on tap, I'm sitting pretty for a day or four. :staRang

I'm using a slight variation on this method. First one has a few small bumps in it, but they're looking good now. It's just messy and annoying. Need to find a way to chuck these bishes in a lathe.

I fiiiiiinally picked up a couple 10g Igloo coolers and ordered all the fittings and valves and whatnot to convert the coolers to a hot liquor tank and mash tun, plus the stuff to convert the keg to a keggle.

Still need a burner, chiller and fermentation fridge, but what else needed to get going? I have this kit, which has a couple carboys and stuff. Just a beer kit?

I just switched to full Electric 220 for my boiler so I would just give you my propane burner but I think you're pretty far away.

It's the thought that counts. :thumbup

I'm just going the budget Bayou Classic SQ14 route, so it won't be too bad.

How long does your e-burner take to reach boil and how many gallons are you boiling?

13 gallons comes to a boil in about an hour with a 5500 w element. I've only run it twice and I haven't punched it to full power yet.
Pretty awesome though since it used to take me 3 hours to heat up.
I yielded 4 gallons of low wines yesterday.

The Bayou burner is the one I have.
its decent at best but I wouldn't walk away from it as I've had the wind blow it out and if the air fuel mix isn't correct it can snuff itself as well.

Man, that sounds pretty good. The Bayou SQ14 is rated at 55k BTU, which converts to about 16k watts, but the heat loss with a propane burner is pretty bad. Kegs have a lip that should hold the heat better than a regular kettle, but I dunno how big of a difference it really is. I'll check craigslist and homebrewtalk before ordering the Bayou, just in case something nicer pops up for a good price.

Tell me more about the wine?

Don't know much about distilling, but that's on the list after wine and beer. How's the low proof stuff taste? Dooo youuuu everrrr part with any of it? :)

I wouldn't drink it.
Minimum two distillations as with the first run you're really just trying to separate out the alcohol from all the weird floating shit and yeast poop.

The art is in the blending.

And yes some could possibly go missing at some point
