Anyone want to join my Northbound ride?

A great ride to kick off my retirement which starts today.

Congratulations! :party
I simply cannot wait til I can say the same! I might be retired already and just not know it, depending on what happens with my job in the hotel industry... or what's left of it, anyway.

On another note, Eric and I brought bikes down to our retirement place so that we have something to ride when we're there. Seeing the bikes in the garage really made it feel like home. It's so fun to go exploring out of our own garage and already be in the thick of the sweet stuff instead of having to slab out of the Bay Area :thumbup We looked at a few places in the Shingletown area when we were trying to decide where to land...it's beautiful there!

Enjoy your bikes, your retirement, and your new place! :ride

So we had a last minute cancellation. Ended up with just 3 of us. Me (ZX14) Stephen (Ninja 400) and Jon (Ninja 300)
Took 174 out of Colfax. What a nice road. Smooth asphalt and nice turns. Dumped us off at 49 in Nevada City. Headed north on 49. Again new creamy asphalt, very light traffic so we had a good time. Got to Downieville, gas pumps broken. "No problem", I thinks , "we'll just get gas in Sierra City." Sierra City- pumps broken. Uh oh... decided to take the Gold Lake Hwy to Quincy not knowing if I would run out of gas. I forgot that there is a Chevron in Greagle, so we were good. Got to Almanor and decided to go through Lassen Park. Got to the road closed part and scooted to the front. Dude working the sign was really nice. Told us it would be a 30 minute wait but he could tell us how to go around. With his directions we went back about a mile and turned onto Hwy 172. Tight super twisty road, kind of like Tunitas without all the crap. Came out on 36 just below entrance to Lassen. Perfect.
I admit, we went through the park a bit faster than the 35 mph limit. And I know those Rangers don't screw around. We were sitting on my back porch with beer at around 2:45. 284 miles- took us almost 8 hours. I flew home Sunday while my friends slogged back on I 5.

It's not always easy to decide if you can be retired or not. Five years ago I stopped working (several years before I expected), but it was at least eight months before I figured out that I could actually be retired and two more years before everything was settled. The plan was to get out riding twice a week, but the reality is once a week. At least that's how it seems to work for me.

Figured I missed a good one.
I say yes to retirement! I’m also one of those who’s making more unemployed than I was previously. Thank you working Californian’s for your contributions and please know it is appreciated. Pondering if I should be grateful to covid for my involuntary termination hastening my retirement. I am grateful for knowing about 172. It’s reassuring to have a plan for those “fixed income” years.
