Anyone want to join my Northbound ride?

Hello folks.
I'm taking my bike up to my house in Shingletown on Saturday June 27. I will be slabbing to Auburn from Hayward where I will catch 49 to Gold Lake Highway, 49 again, eventually going around Lake Almanor and taking 89 through Lassen Park. My riding friend's, being lazy, are not going to be coming along. If anyone wants to come along for part or all of the trip feel free to pm me. Note: I will be flying home on the 28th so you'd have to return on your own if you do the entire route. I can provide a nice room, beautiful relaxing porch and good drinks, food and cigars if you want to stay Saturday night.
This is a permanent move for my bike. I am going to try to establish a new "Maddevill Breakfast Loop" up there.

Sounds good. Pm me and we can maybe set something up.
Warning: I plan on getting an early start. I'll probably be up near Auburn around 8-ish

Thanks for the invite! I will join you virtually from Chicago! :)
I used to live in San Fran and miss the riding terribly. We have great curves in IL too but we call them on/off ramps. :-(

Thanks again!

Note. I will be going through Lassen National Park. Motorcycle fee is $25 for 7 days. I'm not sure if I can talk my way into a free pass since I'm just going through. If not I will buy a Year Pass since I'm 62 and it's $20

One national park pass covers 2 bikes. Other rider is supposed to sign it too (there are two signature lines), but I've never had that happen.

We have one for Sequoia-Kings Canyon NP and we both had to sign it. We've been in and out of the park numerous times over the last year and my husband has been asked for ID about 1/3 of the time when he hands it over. I've never been asked for my ID.

My wife and I each have a Senior Park pass - got them back when they were just ten bucks. We've used them in more than 30 national parks. Maybe five of those wanted to see an ID, a little over half of the rest examined the card, and the remainder were content to just see it waved at them. A couple of years ago we went in and out of all the entrances at Yellowstone and they weren't consistent about how they checked the card between the different entrances.

Once you're old enough for a Senior Pass, just pay the eighty bucks and you're good for the rest of your life. It's still a good deal if you intend to visit a few parks, which I highly recommend.

Myself and Shouldn'thave went thru the park yesterday: 42 degrees at the summit. You'll get no free pass - $50 for us to ride thru and visit my folks by Lake McCumber. It sure was beautiful though!

This would be a good alternative: Rock Creek Road thru Manton.

What's the turnoff going west on 36 into Manton? I usually come eastbound and take Wilson Hill Rd up to Shingletown.

p.s.- our place is 2 miles from McCumber.

What pace are you running? Are you blasting through to get to your destination, or are you cruising to enjoy to scenery?

The best deal if you are 62 is a forever national park pass now @ $80.
I used to buy these annually, but now one and done.
TLDR , +1 Scott's post

Yes, it is the turnoff at "Dale Station" heading North. Goes thru downtown Manton and then heads off to Shingletown. Excellent road!

The place I was at was close to Viola off of Deer Flat Road. It is really, really nice up there right now.

There’s scenery on 49 past Nevada City?
I’ll consider this with a recommendation to continue on 80 to Colfax / 174. It’s got that scenic stuff and avoids the stoplights from Auburn to Smoke Valley. Plus it goes by one of my top 7 coffee shops, https://www.valentinasbistro.com
All that for a possible maybe.:twofinger

Thanks Wanker, I'm going to take your route. Avoids the suburbs of Auburn
To those who expressed interest, unfortunately, a few of my friends have now decided to come along. So, the house is now full. You can still join us on the ride but will have to make your own arrangents for lodging at Shingletown. The campground at Lake McCumber is closed due to Covid as are many in Lassen Park. I think the KOA on Hwy 44 is open.

Thanks for the tips and the interest.

Out. Bummer, I was looking forward to riding with someone who’ll be in the neighborhood when I finally make it to the Reno Retire Ranch.
Enjoy

I tried to ride to Lassen last week but due to construction on 36 turned around and rode to Almanor. All the campgrounds I passed were still closed. (Edit, public campgrounds closed)

So we had a last minute cancellation. Ended up with just 3 of us. Me (ZX14) Stephen (Ninja 400) and Jon (Ninja 300)
Took 174 out of Colfax. What a nice road. Smooth asphalt and nice turns. Dumped us off at 49 in Nevada City. Headed north on 49. Again new creamy asphalt, very light traffic so we had a good time. Got to Downieville, gas pumps broken. "No problem", I thinks , "we'll just get gas in Sierra City." Sierra City- pumps broken. Uh oh... decided to take the Gold Lake Hwy to Quincy not knowing if I would run out of gas. I forgot that there is a Chevron in Greagle, so we were good. Got to Almanor and decided to go through Lassen Park. Got to the road closed part and scooted to the front. Dude working the sign was really nice. Told us it would be a 30 minute wait but he could tell us how to go around. With his directions we went back about a mile and turned onto Hwy 172. Tight super twisty road, kind of like Tunitas without all the crap. Came out on 36 just below entrance to Lassen. Perfect.
I admit, we went through the park a bit faster than the 35 mph limit. And I know those Rangers don't screw around. We were sitting on my back porch with beer at around 2:45. 284 miles- took us almost 8 hours. I flew home Sunday while my friends slogged back on I 5.
A great ride to kick off my retirement which starts today.
