Anyone have experience with white leather for daily use?

Summer is coming. In the past, I didn't care much because I worked and played on the cost but I am commuting to Pleasanton now. I am thinking of picking a second white leather jacket for the summer (Dianese D1 Racing Jacket). I do wear a Kriega R20 with gym clothes, lunch and a laptop. My only concern is about whether the white leather will hold up well to wearing a pack.

Anyone else have any experience with commuting with white leather jackets and wear?

I've had white leather gloves and boots.

They get dirty pretty quickly. I like my gear to look used, so it doesn't bother me.

I have a white textile jacket that won't ever fully clean up.

Expect it to be look dirty.

Silver lining is only the front and collar gets dirty, so you really only need to clean half the jacket!

white dainese suit here. your butt will get dirty no matter what and it will look like a mechanic tried to grab your gooch after working on a 1991 buick all day. otherwise, they reflect heat well and are better for being seen by drivers around you. if you are super anal about cleaning and conditioning your leather, i say go with white. if you want a some protective gear that is less maintenance that you dont have to take as much care to keep it looking nice, get some black leathers

edit: you're looking at a jacket and im describing a one piece. either way, my points stand!

White looks good only once in it's life; when you pull it out of the bag. The moment you actually use it that luster is gone and it just goes from there.
I do like the look of it, but would probably never get white leather for myself.

I think I am fine with bug guts and such. I did have a RS Tachi GMX motion that was in white but I was mainly wondering about the pack straps leaving weird wear marks. Maybe I am overthinking it. :teeth

I have a A* jacket that is about 1/2 white on front and shoulders. It is a bit over a year old and still looks great . I wipe it down between rides with a damp microfiber cloth after spraying a bit of cleaner/conditioner on jacket. Yes, my back pack will leave black marks but so far they always clean up...YRMV.

I look like a dork in white. I look like a dork in black also but there are more of us to blend into the crowd.

worst choice color for leathers. Had a revit jacket with a white stripe down the front. Shit got old dirt nasty really fast. And no amount of cleaning will ever really fix it. Eventually the dirt starts abrading and pushes itself further into the leather.

I have a few Dainese white leather jackets. prefer white, because in my head that makes me more visible to other motorists.

Mr. Clean Magic eraser and a basic cleaner like Simply Green or Target's Method multi purpose cleaner, and lexol for the win.

Love mine; although never used a backpack with it. I've 3 sets of leathers w/bright colored tops (white/blue) & always wear. Warm in winter & zippered perfed front w/zippered liner can be opened partially/or fully when hot.

I use Lexol specifically for high-end/$$$ expensive leathers, & it works ok. I always wanted something a bit better but nothing else I tried seemed to work better.

I also notice cagers notice the leathers more than a dark set too. Sorry, know you were looking for backpack specific Q, but at least this is something.

... I was mainly wondering about the pack straps leaving weird wear marks. ...

i have a light brown leather jacket that i use for non-commute riding and I almost always wear a backpack when I ride anywhere (either a small soft pack for light duty or a boblbee hard pack for larger things). it's a richa jacket with buffalo leather, fwiw.

had the jacket less than a year and even with only occasional usage the shoulders/collar area on the jacket show wear from the backpack straps. it probably happened within the first 10-20 rides of jacket+backpack. it's just some blackish-grey dirt or grime and i don't mind the worn in look (as mentioned by another poster above) so i've yet to try and clean it but i think some good leather care products will probably do the job.

if you're going to wear a white jacket + backpack + regular commute, i'd expect dirt/grime/even dye from the straps to rub off onto the shoulder area for sure.

:2cents ymmv.

saving this for later, thanks!
