To continue in the spirit of the last Town Hall meeting at Sonoma

Who would be interested in joining me at 5:30pm under the canopy in front of the THill Grill on Saturday night. maximum of 1 hour.

I will not be attending Round 3, but I would have attend. Seeing on how a lot camp at the track, I would think a larger turn out might happen.

Sounds good Alan. Have you had any more discussion with Berto/etc about making this more official? Seems like there was some potential interest in that.

No more discussion with Berto about making it more official, just going to keep doing them and see what happens :) I think we proved the last time that it can be a constructive event

Sorry, not much of the board wants to make it official. If BOD members can't make it, there's no way to run it. Keeping it informal the way you had it seemed to work well Alan.

interesting, now we know where the board sits. lets keep it unofficial

Members can decide what they want to do, the board might want to to take notice of the members for a change :)

It wasn't an official position, but just a general conversation. The truth is, the board all work hard to keep the affairs of the club in order AND there is a regular meeting we all go to and spend 5 hours, excluding travel time at, monthly. 5 of us (which is near 50% participation as opposed to 2% participation from the general membership) made it to the meeting at Sonoma and spent over an hour at that meeting. It proved to have some good communication points, but don't also forget that some board members don't go to the race meets and others of us are racing that weekend. Having board meetings at every race weekend is a large impediment to having board members who race as well IMO.

It's not that we don't want to meet with the membership, but we also have lives at the track and AFM member business at every race event really saps the fun, too.

It is NOT supposed to be a board meeting. I appreciate all the work and time board members put into the Board metings. The "members meeting" is for those of us who cant make the board meetings but still want to feel like we are part of the club and that our opinions are heard.

I don't understand then. Is it to have board members mandatorily there or just members?

I'd pay dues to get that feeling again. :thumbup

Me too... maybe. And Berto knows what it will take for me to get involved with the club again but he likes to play this game on Barf where he doesn't respond to me and only texts me on my iPhone. :twofinger

For those who may not know, the Race Director is allowed to join the AFM board meetings on Skype from another state and there is an AFM board member who lives in EUROPE and is allowed to join the board meeting remotely (and vote!) but the rest of the AFM membership is supposed to drive to Oakland on a Wednesday night. Imagine how much deeper the pool of qualified board members could be if AFM members could join the meetings remotely - all it takes is a "can do" attitude instead of enumerating the (absurd) reasons it can't.

You guys deserve better. I would suggest one of the topics for your town hall meeting at T-hill should be solutions for improving communications, allowing more qualified AFMers to join the board and also allowing more AFMers in generally to offer their time and assistance with various AFM projects and initiatives. Keep doing what you're doing Alan, I'm sure lots of people appreciate your efforts. How nice to see the "AFM App" and "AFM Social Media" ideas from your first meeting get traction and support from current and former AFM members. That alone should be proof that the AFM has so many untapped resources.

Alex, Our Skype calls get dropped a few times each meeting. The connection at Ricky's is pretty low bandwidth. It's not that there's no "can do" attitude, it's that the resources we have available are limited, including our time.

You, Sonny and Alan all know your opinions are heard and valued. In fact, you all know how make them heard and it's not hard at all. When I saw you at Sonoma, that was a good time to talk about what concerned you (even as an AFM alumni)…same for Alan. There's 10 other board members for members to ping with their concerns…it doesn't have to be a formalized meeting. What I'm reading is a select few people "want it their way". If that's the case, then bring THAT to the BOD meeting. If you cannot find someone to represent your position, then bring it to me and I will at the next meeting.

Believe Alan started this out as an unofficial meeting for any member so that group issues or concerns could be discussed.

Discussions later led to communicating that any Board member is an AFM member and thus welcomed in that capacity, as a concerned/caring/wants to be involved AFM member.

Haha, I have this guilty pleasure of pushing your buttons sometimes but I did sing your praises for the last event, right?:teeth

You're overthinking it. If Ricky's doesn't have the proper connection, MOVE THE MEETING! That shouldn't stand in your way. Do you realize how many people are willing to help you with running the AFM if you just give them a chance? Alan's meeting gave you ample proof. Stop killing yourself - and occasionally dropping the ball :teeth - you have a whole army of willing and able recruits. You have to get better at delegating and managing projects instead of piling everything on yourself. I don't care if you really are Captain America, everybody has limited bandwidth and I'm fairly sure yours is stretched to the limit.

I only bust your stones because I care. :twofinger

Nothing is mandatory for anyone. I am just trying to get members together who want to talk and CANT make the monthly meeting. No hidden agendas on my part :thumbup

I'll be at the track on Saturday but I'm not sure if I'll be staying late enough to attend the meeting. Will the announcers be allowed to promote this gathering of AFM members?
