A Solar Ruckus?

I stumbled upon a new kickstarter today and thought it was quite novel - a solar Ruckus! I think all of us have the impression that electric bikes aren't "quite there" when it comes to our own idea of an optimal range and this specimen seems to address what could be the Achilles heel; a solar charging battery. :applause

It's amazing how quickly we're adapting to a new paradigm of two-wheeled capability and I thought I'd open this one up for discussion, The Beast.

An off-road/DOT capable machine that (at least within city limits) would never need to be plugged in and is a fairly reasonable price (~$1200). The website is a bit vague about the actual performance (speed, braking, suspension, etc.) but it's a step in the right direction. Imagine if the Ego could recharge as it's being ridden or even parked? Wouldn't that change your mind a bit? Battery technology is truly advancing, albeit at a snail's pace, but this just tickled my interest. :ride

Tee hee. I am a fan of the Ruckus in general. This iteration is pretty darned cool. Sure, it will be slow as hell. For city use it might be fantastic. I want to know more!

If modern zombies weren't so damn fast this would be the ultimate bug-out vehicle! On/Off road capabilities with the option of using it as a portable battery for modern devices.

500W engine? I'll just bicycle, and my only carbon footprint will remain my farts.

Oh, with a simple modification to a Shreddie, I'm sure you've got enough hot air to power an entire city block! :twofinger

That is going to take a really long time to charge with those little panels angled down. 15 watts of solar is pure gimmik.

Enjoy you bi-weekly ride around the block.

seriously. these guys dont care about solar, they just wanted to make a battery powered bicycle. a shitty one too because it doesnt have any of the advantages of a bicycle.

strap one of these on in a better charging location and more than double your charging output.

It wouldn't take much, to produce something worthwhile...
This ain't it, Why? I don't want to detail the why.
Putting it into words, is too disgusting, even for me.

Not to go on a tangent, but I do like those Goal Zero setups. We picked one up the last time MotoGP was at Laguna ( :( ), and we use it on trips and at the track to charge phones, GoPros, run speakers off of - great stuff.

I won't be getting a Daymak Beast, but there is one problem with electric bicycles for me: the 1hp cap.

Anything above 1hp is considered a motorized vehicle which apparently requires registration.

But I can produce 20-25mph with my own legs, and I don't believe the sustained 30mph stories that 650 watt e-bikes claim to hit.

What I would love is a 3000 watt, 3hp e-bike. Then I could probably do 40mph but without any legal issues.

The closest is Stealth, which I believe does not sell their 4,500 watt version in the US.

Now, it is not cheap, $10k+, nor do I need suspension for commuting.
