2021 Ford Bronco - shots fired

Most Americans drive 15-19 miles to work every day. Most Americans do not live in the sprawling suburban clusterfuck that is California.

That’s a true fact!

When I lived in Medford Oregon, people would often talk about having to drive, “all the way out to Jacksonville"... Jacksonville was 7 miles from Medford! I was always like, "you do know that still right HERE, right?" (Medford itself is only 6-7 miles in diameter, and it’s “the big town” in the area)

Talking about going 40 miles to Klamath falls sounded like someone was heading for Africa!

How many people outside of California give a shit about MPG or buying a hybrid? : |

Considering they pay ~1/2-2/3 of what we do for gas, there are far more than you'd expect (as far as caring about MPG).

You also have to take into account though that outside of CA - and even within CA but outside of the cities - use cases for your car differ greatly. Hell of a lot more towing fishing / wake boats / dirt bike trailers / etc once you get out to Modesto / Lodi / anywhere around the delta / etc, thus you see a lot more 2500 / F250 size diesels. But I know several who own hybrids for when they commute in to Milpitas / San Jose. The money saved on housing alone affords them the extra car easily.

Contrast that with people who only have the space or money for one car, due to living on the peninsula or in the city, and have no need to tow, haul, etc.

Really is a shame there is no SEMA show this year. I’m sure Ford would’ve had at least half a dozen Broncos and Sports all kitted out in various ways. I forgot the number from the press release, but believe it was going to be well over 100 “genuine Ford” (which means Yakima or Thulë made it for them) accessories available.

Also a shame that things aren’t on dealer lots right now. I apparently have to buy an SUV for us (and my wife doesn’t want me to get a truck because it’s too high/big or a sedan because it’s not high enough), and she also really is digging the Bronco too. Perhaps I’ll ask the barf collective what to get. Besides a turbo busa of course.

200+ is the number sticking in my head. I think I commented earlier in this thread on it too. What got me excited about it was it sounded like they were trying to standardize attachment points for mods similar to how gun manufacturers adopted picatinny rails and subsequently keymod / various other systems to greatly expand aftermarket modifications. Making everything plug-and-play so to speak, less worry about having to weld / drill / etc to bolt on aftermarket parts, and less risk of someone doing shoddy work that damages body panels or puts stress on the frame / bumpers in the wrong places or something.

A key feature of my JGC that we love is the air suspension that lowers the car when parking, then raises it back up for driving -- plus being able to dial in up to 2" more of lift on demand as necessary.

My wife enjoys the lower entry/exit height of the Jeep.

Since I like plug-ins, I have been browsing the RAV4 Prime Plug-in Hybrid. I already have a BEV motorcycle, so my next car will be a plug-in hybrid most likely.

The RAV4 Prime has acceptable styling and has been reviewed at nearing sporty with decent acceleration. The price is on par with a base Tesla, so that is a little disappointing.

Yeah, but even the RAV4 hybrid is super interesting.. 40MPG and versatile enough to go anywhere, with Toyota longevity and reliability? Tesla hasn't got that.

The problem is the "holy grail" of a vehicle is large and fuel efficient with 300+ mile range.

While my tesla can go far, it still has to charge generally. Max range is about 220 driving normal. So I still have to stop and charge somewhere for 20-30 mins. WHich you can do by working out lunch or something. Problem is, it's a small car that's super light and feels cheaply built. Obviously that's to assist with range/aerodynamics, etc. Car feels too cheap though, really a major turnoff.

But wouldn't it be nice to have a BRONCO or an F150 sized vehicle that could do a true 500 mile round trip and still charge in my garage overnight? Never seeing a gas station, never having to sit and wait.

So I don't know what's going on at Ford, but while at Fremont Ford the other day having my Ranger's 20,000 mile service done, a salesman chatted me up and mentioned that they're extremely desperate for good trucks to sell. So I indulged him and asked him to humor me. He looked my truck over and went in to chat with the sales manager. He then came back and said he'll offer me $36,200 in trade if I bought something off their lot. I laughed and he told me he was dead serious. I told him that's more than I paid for the truck when I bought it new last year and he said he wasn't surprised. Apparently they can't get anything new from the factory for a while and are simply desperate.

Long story short...maybe I will "buy" a new Bronco... :laughing

So in reality, it's not entirely impossible. Hell, Carvana offered almost the same amount of money to buy the truck off me too. :dunno
