Out to Austin

After leaving the park, Brian headed back to Hawthorne while I struck out north on dirt roads to go to Austin. No reason, just to go. Austin is about the middle of NV on Hwy 50

Heading up the Reeves River Valley, part of this was like a dirt freeway.

Just to show I was in Austin.

The KLR was great on the dirt roads, but I really missed having triple digit capability out in NV. There were a few spectacular stretches of road coming back from Austin that would have been even better on something with some speed. :teeth

Thanks, Dale. It was definitely worth the visit. Only 75 miles from Hawthorne, and only a couple of miles of gravel road to get there. There are at least three ghost towns stretched out over several miles.

If you want to see the fossils you have to time your visit for one of the tours. We just missed the morning tour, and didn't want to wait around for the afternoon tour. I couldn't get any decent shots through the windows there.

This was always tempting...but I never made it happen.

We took a little trip through town where we found a combination thrift/dime/dollar store. I addition to the pimp-ass iPod dock that we found for $14, they had this sweet organ FS...$100!

Night time rolling around, this is where about 10 of us spent our Saturday...enjoying Cheladas and lots of other cheap-ass beers.ort
