Anyone going to Sturgis on a sports bike next month?

I disappointed peeps when changing my mind, but I would feel horrible if I took it with me there.

I imagine so. But Thanksgiving is akin to Sturgis. If the dead could speak, not one would say they’re happy with the outcome. No family gathering is worth risking death for.

Fascinating article.

In one pandemic reality, restaurants are packed. There are no coronavirus limits at college-town bars.

No social-distancing dots speckling the floor.

Some people are wearing masks, but even a weak proposal to make it a requirement in one city prompted an outcry.

Welcome to South Dakota.

In another, hundreds of miles to the south, much of life is shut down.

No dining inside restaurants. Capacity limits at Walmart. Shuttered bookstores, museums, hair salons, parks.

A mask-wearing culture so widespread that someone put one on an old statue.

Welcome to New Mexico.

This is the view from America’s two discordant, dissonant pandemic realities.

North Dakota, at 95k/million is going to cross the 100k cases per million by the end of the week.

#2 is South Dakota, at 82.5k/million, which is increasing by about 1,000 new cases per million each day.

#3 is Iowa at 67k

Maybe South Dakota's motto, which is "Under God The People Rule," should change to "Live Free and Die"! :wtf

I guess they are quite hostile to mask wearers there.

Here is the Deaths per million counts for SD over the last 7 days:
0 33.91 35.04 40.69 40.69 47.47

Yeah, it's bad and it's going to get worse.

All the way through January as at least 1/3 of parents think seeing family is "worth the risk."

I'm assuming that applies to Christmas and New Year's, not just rapidly approaching Thanksgiving.

Recent poll said 1/3 of parents said having their kids celebrate with family was worth "the risk."

Yikes.

They are essentially saying "having their kids celebrate with family was worth "the risk" of seeing an empty chair or two at next years dinner."
So much short sighted/instant gratification thinking. I'm done saying I'm surprised. Now I find myself somewhere between sad and appalled.

Yes, this is most likely the only holiday season so patience is needed. Next year things will be much better.

Mr Doom and Gloom here says much of next year will be just like this year. By the time vaccines make to the masses, all false sense of security, all misfires, all mutations and whatnot, it’ll all look the same.

Agree but I expect that by July we start to find a break.
By the end of the year 2022 will look like we are getting back to normal.

And.... Sturgis will happen again next year.

Well, if I get a vaccine, I don't really care if others do or don't, I'll be immune to their stupidity.

A couple of weeks ago I got the first of 2 shingles vaccine shots. I'll go back for the second in January, but I really don't want to, left my arm kinda sore.

Above all I like to play.
Maybe. There's no guarantees that the vaccines will be indefinitely effective and that any side effects will be worth it.

So far the two are pretty successful with low amounts of side affects. The are not giving you Covid. They are tricking your system into believing you have it and thus build up antibodies.

I am down for it, but we will have lots more data by the time it gets to the general population. Medical workers and elderly will be the first to get it and somehow I expect the Politicians and NBA players etc. will get to the front of the line before the general public gets it. :nchantr
