Crutchlow had a brake failure at Jerez when he rode for Ducati. Thankfully, Cal did not crash but it ended his race on the first lap and gave him a good scare. The announcers today mentioned that Eugene Laverty has had to bail off three times or more; most spectacularly at Imola in 2018. Michael Ruben Rinaldi jumped off his Panigale V4R due to brake failure during WSBK FP1 at Jerez entering Pedrosa corner a few weeks ago.

Brake failure is still pretty damn rare considering these components are pushed to the limit several times each lap over thousands and thousands of rider laps each year at the World Championship level.

Watched the first half this morning, was about to watch the second when my bro-in-law showed up to help with tree trimming (my wife told him to not come today, but...)so, after ALL DAY spent in my yard with him and branches and chainsaws and all - WOOOOOOOOO!!!! What a second half!

Stoked for MO88, and Tech-3. Talk about snatching victory - that last corner scoot was PERFECT. Miller and Asparagus too focused on each other and - ZOOP! - there went the win. Tech-3 have always been my fav. of the "second tier" teams, was sad when they had to switch to KTM, but not no more!

Too fun.

Gotta get caught up with 2 and 3 now, but I don't know if I've got in in me. Who am I kidding? Off I go!

an EZ answer is sometime in mid-'60s, before overbored Honda (& Yamaha?) 350s ran in 500 class- this immediately before legit Honda 500-4s appeared

dunno the exact date, but itz a genuine puzzler.....

Rossi was a very aggressive rider and made some punk moves in his day. He made the hard block pass a standard and acceptable move in motogp, whereas before it was considered dirty and scandalous and pissed off a lot of riders, especially hotheads like Sete and Max often.

MM is the next evolution of hard passes. He will slide in underneath, cut your line short from the outside or inside, and isn't much concerned with hard contact. He's crashing the bike into his competitors, but as we have seen he miraculously controls the crash. Others see it as reckless.

I saw this style coming with Simoncelli. He had a similar overly aggressive style. He would try and control the edge rather than let go, and push the bike into doing what he needed it to do, not crash. I truly believe this was his final error in judgement.

Rossi was humbled to the core by that crash. And his words today are coming from that perspective. Sometimes a rider needs to let go of the need to make that unsafe move, that need to push harder even if it means giving up one place.

Sometimes a rider needs to use his head to get back in the game of the reality of the situation. Yes its high stakes competitive racing. But it's also a very real risk of life.

I'm guessing you're forgetting when Biaggi nerfed Rossi off the track at Suzuka at very high speed.

Yep. A one off that used to happen once every five years. Until the current times, when a certain young Spanish rider decided to bring it to a new level.

Viñales said he felt his brakes fading not necessarily failing. He was trying to get a point or two. But fail they did. Massively

In the car world, spongey brakes are the warning to watch for. When you feel this it means it’s time to get off the track. They don’t come back quickly enough to allow continued lapping at slower speed. (I learned this myself the hard way).
