I really, really don't enjoy this and these kinds of threads.
But I saw you twice yesterday at rush hour on San Pablo Dam Road. In the morning you wailed by in the bike lane at only about 60 along somewhat moving traffic.
In the afternoon, at about 4:30, you wailed by at about 75 in the bike lane while the rest of us were doing a respectable 50-55. Shit, traffic was moving, what was the point of passing for that? You ain't gonna overheat. And there is a fair bit of debris in that lane if you care about flats.
They give tickets for that. I have gotten one (going about 20 mph!), written by the combined park-water district police in little black and white SUVs. It's about a $320 ticket with traffic school option. They are unreasonable assholes. They "disarmed" me of my pocket knife fercrynoutloud and would have no part of the overheating explanation. They are not motorcyclists. I guess you hope they won't catch you? I want to be open-minded and consider that maybe it IS your strategy but after all, there is the occasional stalled car and actual bicyclist though not often in the morning commute. Lately EBMUD dumptrucks have been kind of aggressive so watch out for them too. It's been my commute for 16 years, if that gives perspective.
Because you are driving so fast, you are probably going to cause a crackdown or worse, resulting in tickets for those of us who are a lot more careful about only using that lane when we cannot visibly see the cops. I mean, that's my strategy.
They hit the road every morning at about 7:30 to get coffee in Orinda. It's fairly predictable. Then I see them sometimes around 4:30 maybe finishing or changing shifts. Try and avoid those intervals. And when you get into Orinda, in the morning, it's a goddam school fercrissakes, with actual kids and parents and bicycles. And cops. Or maybe you are turning up the hill into Tilden not sure.
Slow the roll, please..you are just pissing people off for not a good reason. Really bad PR for us. The afternoon one was the really bad one, to me. Just no point. You have some company in the morning, like guy on cafe bmw or whatever though they go slower.
