Would you buy a Tesla Motorcycle?

It depends on what noise they make when I am revving it incessantly at stop lights and while at low speeds.

With the supercharger network + destination chargers, long distance touring may be possible for an electric motorcycle.

I remember riding a demo zero a few years ago, and was blown away. I loved the power delivery and the near silent drive train, but turned off by slow charging and short range.

What if Tesla came out with a bike that can do 250 miles, and supercharge capable (call it; 100 mile charge in 25 mins)

Would you?

YES :teeth

The Zero SR is really good, but a Tesla motorcycle would be even faster, would be liquid cooled for racing and the charging would be 15 to 30 min. You don't need that much power to fast charge a Tesla. A Tesla Destination charger is ~16 kW, that is ~30 min 80% charge for a Zero SR.

Who says that you need to be a Tesla to use a Tesla Destination charger? :cool
There is a way. :cool

Imo city traffic, in any city, would greatly benefit from electric motorcycles of all kinds.

Raises the question though - what about once you're at your destination? Tech campus, college campus, etc. I've seen moto police on electric bikes riding across college campuses...electric skateboards and such are pretty common now...is there a VC for it? I know there's codes for requiring helmets and such for electric personal transportation when used on public roads.

If I could afford it yes I would buy one simply because you can ise the superchargers. I think there is some kinda membership fee to use them though =/. Right the best you can do is the Energica Eva has Level 3 charging ability and 30k price tag.

250 miles probably too much for now 150 on the freeway would do it for me. The ability to fastcharge means you dont need the range as much. But remember the more kwh you put on a bike the heavier it will be, the energica eva tips the scales at 500+ lbs. Thats only like 1more kwh than my empulse thats 460lbs. So imagine say 50 more miles on a Eva youd need like 5kwh more. Then lets not forget howcefficient these bikes are. They are more affected by how hard you feet on the throttle than an ice bike.

The Zero SR is 414 lb, has 13 kWh onboard for 161 city miles/81 Miles at 70 MPH. Its interesting to see how weight is so much more for less battery on other bikes.

Any current bike that's priced at roughly $15K will be much "more" bike than an electric model, for whatever the use may be. Couple that up with the chance of running out of energy on a moto and I'm 100% out (for now).

Once I buy a house and install solar and whatnot, I'll look more seriously into converting over to the electric vehicles (Tesla S or 3, electric motorcycle). For now though...ICE.

Here's the current supercharger map. Tesla expects 3 x, in the next 2-3 years.

All the superchargers outside of major metropolitan areas are usually empty.

Elon Musk must have an irrational hatred of North Dakota.

But yea, I'd go for an electric motorcycle that didn't feel like I'm losing out in range, price to performance, etc, I would be very interested.

don't even wait. Most workplaces have installed and it's not an issue. Many coworkers rent and own full EV (Tesla/Mercedes/Volt). Especially if it's not your only transportation

Never. Big part of the reason I buy (or bought) MV bikes is the epic sound it makes. I wanna hear that engine and exhaust when I ride.

for my lifestyle; urban dweller with twisties less than 45 miles round trip, an Ebike is perfect for me.

I was lucky enough to get unguided test ride of a ZeroDS on Bean Creek road, just a few moments away from the Zero factory.

When it comes down to it, I couldn't give a fuck about exhaust noise. For what i call a pure riding experience, all i want to feel/hear is the way the throttle, tire and the road communicates with each other. ICE engines are just relatively inferior when it comes to this, as there is lot of mechanical noise you have to cut through.

How many 'outlets' are available at any one station?
Half hour of downtime every hour and a half of riding, and that's assuming a spot at the charger is available as soon as I roll in, and there's not too many riders on leccy bikes in the group.

Pass.

Also, why is this in the Kitchen Sink? We try not to talk motorcycles down here. :x

I love Da Whores
What do people do at these supercharging stations for 25 minutes? These electric car drivers are likely into yoga and juicing, wine and cheese tasting...
When this shit catches on and becomes more common someone is gonna become kingpin if they can provide a service to sell during that 25 minutes.

Good idea!

I'm interested in electric bikes. Have considered trading one of mine in to get one.

Tesla? Alta's farther along with motos than Tesla would be with it's technology. The problem with this entire discussion is that there is no way to get 250 miles of range out of the batteries without adding massive weight or a quantum improvement in battery technology. Electric motos would be awesome - if battery technology was wayyyy better than it is.

Remember when laptop batteries only lasted for a couple hours at a time, and that was only if you didn't try to watch a movie?

Now you can go a whole work day, or damn near, without having to plug in. When motorcycles make the same leap is when they'll really take off.

Well this also has a lot to do with better power efficiency of memory, CPU and GPU. In terms of both micro architecture, shrinked geometry and doing things like turning off cores that are not in use.
