No US, and no Dutch! WTF. Read an ESPN article saying we should root for Mexico. No thank you.

no Italy!!!

I'm cool with rooting for Mexico. I'll probably just root for good games and not really root for a particular team. I'll def not root for Uruguay (f Bitey McBiteface Suarez)

I always have a spot in my heart for zee Germans though.

Haha, I will (root for Colombia)!

I went to Barranquilla last year, was fun. You'd think I was the first Asian person to ever set foot in the country though.
You probably were!

:O my best friend's wife is from there too! Seems like a nice place.

Ive never been :( one day though!

True story there is a female BARFer on here that is also from Colombia and we have the same last name. haven't found a connection yet though, small world!

WTF, what happened to Italy?

I also like Das Boot or whatever the Germans call themselves (that's definitely not it, lol), and have always liked the Dutch (minus in 2010 or 2014 or whatever, when they played like thugs).

It's nice having the US in it, mainly for the fun times at sportsbars, etc., but I won't miss US "quality" in actual matches.

I wonder if "hooligans" will be a problem. The Russian variety is pretty ridiculous, and makes the British ones look quaint.

As much as I hate saying it, the US missing out is probably the best thing that could have happened for them going forward.

The old guard is now phased out. The Dempsey, Bradley, Altidore, era is over. We won't ever have to see Graham Zusi or Matt Besler or Omar Gonzalez ever again.

The best younger Americans are now playing in Europe and actually being developed into technically skilled players.

Losing away to T&T to miss out on qualifying was absolutely rock bottom.

That was nuts. I'd also blame bad luck (didn't Costa Rica lose to someone, and the combo kept us out), but come the F on.

You might be right, but I've been hearing about "up and coming" US soccer for like 20 years.

They will.

We won't hear about a lot of it through the MSM.

At least one player has already publicly said he doesn't want his family going to Russia to watch him play in the WC.

All the US needed was a draw against T&T to qualify. With a loss, they needed both Honduras and Panama to lose as well, and they both won.

They have higher priorities (according to the article you linked) than tackling fan racism....

It also emerged earlier this week that the FA had been fined £16,000 by Fifa because an England Under-20 player sipped a non-sponsored energy drink at last year’s World Cup.

Spain fires coach a day after taking the Real job.

Spain says it's because he didn't tell them before taking the Real job.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Portugal being in the same group.

Regardless, it will be a good game vs the 2 countries on Friday.

I was reading about this. The Russian fans are so racist- they have caused matches to get cancelled, because the entire stadium is chanting "Monkey, Monkey, Monkey". In addition- you better not appear to be Gay/Lesbian/Queer.

So true. FIFA needs to grow a pair. I have a coworker who is going. He's a Mexican guy. I hope that he doesn't have any problems.
