I've got BloodBourne but haven't got farther than the intro... that shit is tough and gets tougher

Yeah, those games and Sekiro were great training for Ghost of Tsushima. Brutally final is the only way to describe the combat system.

There was another game that was on PS2 that was similar: Bushido Blade. Every now and then I pull that out when we have a party and let the guests maul each other using the vs mode.

Bushido Blade is an underated classic. It was next level for it's time and had a enjoyable balance of sim to arcade.

I never do well at the heavy sneak type games.

I remember the old PS2 LoTR games, I could never finish the first one, but kicked ass on the second and third. No sneaking required.

BloodBourne seemed to be a lot of that, with harsh battles if you got caught.

Change your approach. Engage, don't sneak. Get the experience and the loot for engaging and it will prepare you for the next step up in difficulty. Especially what you learn about dodging and countering. Use the environment and clip range to pull the mobs to you for one-on-one fights until your character is developed enough to take on multiple opponents at once.

:)
I learned from Dark Souls there is no sneak. Engage and deal with the kick to the nuts my ego takes at the finality of:

It depends on the game and the sneak mechanics.

I remember back in the PS2 days I played the original hitman games. It was a lot of fun figuring out how to sneak around, make the kills look like accidents, etc. You could play the whole game as a murder hobo, of course, but the game basically made fun of you for doing so.

Apparently the series received a refresh. I might check them out at some point to see if it maintains the same charm.

Ghost of Tsushima on Hard is definitely giving me some ego hits... I'm not tempted at all to go Lethal

Me neither. Hard was hard enough. I probably played at least twice as long as it would have taken had I survived every encounter and I didn't do a full completion. I only hit up the side quests that were on the way to doing the story line quests.

I got platinum on easy. Hard I'm just focused on the main story and whatever side quest I walk by.

I did spend a good bit of time going to the hot springs just for the health boost. Now I'm at least a 3 strike death vs 2... :facepalm

I definitely hit up the hot springs. At least all that showed up on the map as question marks in my path of play. And picked up the special moves.

So you're up to this level of play then? :teeth

It's on like...

I haven't had much time to play anything but Donkey Kong is my typical jam when I get time. I'm a previous Twin Galaxies world record holder (MAME no hammer challenge). I actually learned it from not only the arcade back in the day but I was also worked for Atari to write the original IBM PC port. Fun fact, they tried to screw us on money, released a total POS product that flopped, and I still have our good source code printouts on greenbar, disks, and gameplay video tape from Nintendo Japan in a box in my garage. :).

PRO TIP: if I ever ask you to play for money... walk the other way :rofl

Other current games are Skyrim (even though solved all major quests, now roaming and doing all the minor stuff) and having a fun flashback playing Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 & 2. Those last ones are prolly the best Diablo-like releases ever on a console :thumbup

A friend of mine finished his MAME cabinet a month or two ago. Haven't had a chance to get a visit with him to play yet. We usually attend the annual CAX convention in Santa Clara but the 'rona put that on hold this year.

Galaga, Shinobi/Shadow Dancer, Rygar, and a few of the 194* games are what we usually play when we attend. He's got all of them on the intro screen for his MAME along with DK, DigDug, and a few others he likes. Jonesin for this shit to be over so I can go visit, have a few beers and laughs, and play some vids.

You need to get resident evil 7 if you're into shitting yourself in fear.

Metal Gear Solid was the best mix of sneak / combat for a while. It gave you juuuuuust enough weapons to fight a couple guys off if you had to but strongly encouraged frugal usage.
