Totaled! Need a new (used) car < $10k!

Well, I almost got into a head-on collision a few weeks ago but due to my awareness, skill, and (mostly) luck I was able to (mostly) avoid getting taken out. Anyway, my 2015 Passat is a write off despite being perfectly driveable and now I need to go used car shopping. Of course Insurance low balled me on my car's value so I only have $10k to spend.

Can BARF help me find the perfect dog-friendly, economical, fun-to-drive daily driver for under $10,000?

I would buyback and fix it, no major frame damage and that wheel/shock still looks like its standing straight and proud - in the pics imo

Or, you can fight the insurance company. If you were pleased with the car, it might be pretty easy to buy a comparable one and then take the sales contract to the insurance company and say "pay me this."

Food for thought...you can buy a new Golf Sportwagen for $17k. I bought a 2018 in manual earlier this year for $16,800. With a 6 year warranty.

I like that but what you linked to is $22,000 and I know I'm not that tough a negotiator. :laughing

Subaru: I've said that I feel like a lesbian trapped in a man's body, so...

Buy back & fix: I'm considering it. But I'd kinda like a change too.

How about some opinions on this? This? This? This?
You managed to select the 3 brands that require the most maintenance, especially after 90k miles!

There is a very good reason why BMW's over 100k, Audi's over 75k and VW's over 90k are all so cheap on craigslist.

OP, I'm glad that you came out of that incident physically unscathed!

I've been through two head-on collisions, neither my fault, and they're no fun at all!

BMW's are fun to drive, for sure, but they cost $$$$$ to maintain unless you can work on your own car. Also, I think their handling advantage of a couple decades ago isn't as large as it used to be, so the extra $$$$ for maintenance is harder to swallow.

Same with volvo's, you'd probably enjoy one and some of them are great for dogs, but unless you can work on your own cars they are really expensive to take to the dealer for work.

That BMW looks sweeeet. (you can) Buy it but in reality it's a significant upgrade (on paper) from the Passat--the point being is that if you'd have the BMW Wagon you'd have to pay more on each oil change, other maintenance, on each pothole and bent or curbed wheel. Also, the dog smell. Who the heck buys a wagon that ALREADY hasn't left a dog hair and piss smell in the car?
;) ;) ah, why I know

I vote for the Passat CC for some reason but it's unreal why all these ads you listed are so cheap.

Well it's also unreal why that guy said about the 17-18k wagon. I thought 21k for a new AWD wagon is not too much.

If they still have Model Year 2018s on the floor, it doesn't take much of a negotiator to get a deal! The US market has no appetite for wagons any more, so the dealer will be very willing to make the sale.

Local driving, the Chevy spark is a great idea. Or electric Bolt for about 23k after rebates.

Older Lexus ES or RX are unstoppable. I’d buy a used Lexus any day. Well taken care of, reliable, and comfortable.
