BTW, Mike, I notice u live in that area.

Do you recommend these other spots around there?
stonyford, south cow, indian valley, knoxville.

I only have less than a year of experience on dirt, riding a CRF250L (the little red pig)...

rode trail 15/26/25/11/8 at PP. (just about right, in terms of difficulty)

Stonyford is awesome. Much larger than CC/Middle Creek/Penny Pines. Something there for everyone and more.

South Cow Mtn is also great, albeit a bit more difficult on average than Penny Pines. For that, many folks like it. Unlike Penny Pines, not a great idea to explore Cow Mtn on your own.

There really isn't a lot of "legal" riding in Indian Valley. That's not to say there are not a lot of trails there, just not officially legal. Not worth a long drive from Bay Area IMO.

Unless you live close to Knoxville or everywhere else is closed, its not worth the drive IMO. Only been once, so perhaps I've missed the good stuff.

Sorry...just saw this.
Stony is a bit of a drive but worth it. Lots of trails you could ride on that bike.

Cow is great too but if you end up on the wrong trail you could end up stuck (someone had to leave a klx out there this weekend). Also some of the trails have a lot of downed trees still. Always have to watch out for head on's at Cow for some reason...and the dust is bad during summer months.

Indian Valley doesn't have any maintained trails and kind of sucks if you don't know the area (some of the trails are have ruts that will swallow a bike!)...that being said, I ride there all the time. There are some "legal" trails on the north west side of the lake and you can ride all the way to Stonyford:thumbup from there.

Knoxville
Not worth the drive for most people...it's rocky, trails aren't marked and for the most part not maintained, but again...I ride there a lot. I know some really good trails out there, it's only 30 minutes from my house and it'd ALWAYS open:thumbup.

Middlecreek (Penny Pines) is probably your best bet in my opinion. I actually like riding up there but I ride more remote areas where I don't run in to a lot of people. I was out there yesterday for the first time this year...had to deal with a lot of downed trees but had a good time in the rain:thumbup
