The End of an Era in San Francisco ...

RFTC-BW-Tattoo-200.jpg

God bless CityBike! :party

... remember how it blew my
mind to move to San Francisco from
the East Coast, see all the cool bikes parked
ON the sidewalk and everywhere, learn
that we could lane-split and ride year 'round
and figure out that they handed out

FREE MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINES on the streetcorners ... :laughing

... thought I'd died and gone to heaven ... :gsxrgrl

... glad to hear they are soldering on
on the interwebs but I'll miss going camping
with my copy of CityBike (perfect for helping
hold things in my cargo net and starting campfires ... :toothless)
... my recent copies of CityBike were as good as I ever recall ...

Yeah, bummer... Sorry to see the print edition go away... It's been in street boxes almost as long as I've been riding...

Good luck to CityBike...

I was just remembering that when I started
reading CityBike I didn't have a cell phone, my camera
had film in it, the web hadn't been introduced, and the
"Classified" section made great reading and
went on for a couple of pages ... :laughing

I also bring my copy of moto camping trips. I'm enough of a fan of the print edition that I purchased a subscription. I already spend so much of my life on a screen that I try hard to read on paper when possible. :(

Sad to hear, but not a surprise. All of us on the web now are part of the problem.

I am glad they are staying active online.

A big donut hole...

Over the years retrieved most of my copies of 'City Bike' from a box outside Rolling Pin Donuts in San Bruno. Hasn't been a copy there for years. Now this.

Have found where periodicals move to online only content, I lose interest. Hope my monthly sailing news 'fix', 'L-38' does not follow suit.

I just received my copy in my monthly forwarding, haven't read the bad news yet.

Taze away, Yana...
Same as you John. When I first moved to SF... 22 God damn years ago... I specifically remember finding a copy of City Bike in front of my local coffee shop. Moving from a Moto centric city to begin with I was pleased to see a rag with my interest free whenever I wanted it.

Never did find the coffee shop all the boys rode to, but the rag and meeting your gang years later was just fine with me.

I'm with you SFMCjohn. :cry

Been reading the rag for decades.
Even contributed at times.
I'll miss the paper.

Can't see myself "thumbing thru" a web periodical like I do a paper one.

Is it possible to download each monthly issue to "thumb thru" on like your cell phone when out of coverage area? (i.e.; camping)

Good Luck City Bike.

I do have years and years of back issues to rehash.

Citybike has been a big part of my life for almost a decade. I'll miss miss distributing the paper, chatting with shops, and knowing what's going on in our motorcycle world.

At the same time, I'm looking forward to sitting in a coffee shop with my reader and checking out "UnEasy Rider" or any of the other great stuff. Not to mention having HD pictures we can zoom in on the detail.
Our times are changing and print media just doesn't seem to be where it's at anymore.

I'm still pushing for the Citybike Coffee Table book.
35 years with Citybike :thumbup

Ok, can I suggest something now I've read the I version.
Any way to download the "issue" complete to a book reader, Kindle, Ibook? So you can read it without cell/wifi streaming in the woods?
A 35 year City Bike to go with "Tales from over the edge"

A coffee table book is an awesome idea, just for all the great essays alone. From the Halton, D'India, glydon days, through the gabe years to today. Each iteration of Citty Bike has had its own style and humor. Heck, I probably have 100 issues, if there is any gaps in the archieve, I use them to line my bird cage;)

Anyone remember when somebody advertised in the classified section something like this: "Estate sale: 2 Honda black shadows, need gone asap, these bikes say Vincent on the tank, best offer" :wow. I was in Mexico at the time.:(
